There is a good chance I saw it when I went to pick up my tooth. They had about 8 that they had boiled and gotten clean. They still needed to be finished as far as the little bit of grease and whitened. They looked really good. I bet the boy is excited to get his skull back.

So....picked up Mr. Bear at the butcher today and have already enjoyed some summer sausage, smoked cheese, and crackers. Delicious.....

So anyway he recovered the bullet from the far shoulder where it was lodged. I don't remember my exact load data and am to lazy to go find it. These bullets are for my .270, 150 gr Barnes X Bullet. This is not the tipped TSX. I don't remember the velocity. Ending weight once cleaned and dried is 146.7 gr measured on my digital scale. A few things....First off the shot placement if you remember was hard quartering away. Bullet entered at the last rib or so, blew out the liver, both lungs, and broke the far shoulder. It traveled a long way and was obviously a very devastating shot on the bear. He traveled a few strides and that was it. However, as you will see, the bullet did not expand very impressively. The shot was fairly close and I would expect more expansion a bit past the 100 yard mark and beyond.

Here it is.

H20,  That does not look like a XBT.  I'll bring a few to the BBQ I've dug out of animals and show you what kind of expansion those have.  Bring your slug.  This looks like a different projectile.

Will do.....as I mentioned I picked up the meat from Jonn this morning. The family was out in the shop working on all kinds of good looking stuff. Already broke open one of the summer sausage....good stuff. These rounds were loaded a few years ago....I'm fairly sure they were the Barnes....I'll bring it and we can get all kinds of opinions.

Looks like a flat base triple shock to me. Is there an X stamped on the base of it?

I'll bring a slug box for the X and XBT.  Guarentee it's neither of those.

D-Rock, please drink my share until I get there.  I'm getting in the shower now.

I'm bringing:

Beer
Water
Polish Style duck dogs
Duck Lanjager
Duck pepperoni
Duck Jerky

And a item we can use for one of those betting games once everyone is suffciently juiced with spirits...

See you soon!

Did you figure out what type of bullet you had?  Looks a lot different than what I shot my bear with.  That's a 140 grain hornady SST.  Opened up nice but didn't hold its weight as well as I would like.

Not 100%. It is a Barnes of course we just can't tell enough about the bullet to tell which one. Either way...like we talked about....it got the job done and I agree with Goldeneye....a little more speed would have made it open up a bit more and be more of a textbook look.

That is actually not to bad for the SST D-Rock ...nice mushroom ....I like the interlocks in a 140 gr out of my .270 ...Actually H20 Bullet held up pretty well too ... Looks like it could of opened up a little more ...but it definitely held up nicely ...
