I remember them saying in the meeting that this is for bear hunting only...I suppose if you hike into DNR land you can shoot anything that is in season but if you are using the yellow permit and key to get in than you would be going against what was stated in the meeting,

I am just saying what was said in the meeting, what we all heard.... if you are using the gate key and authorization to drive behind the gates you were asked to be only bear hunting.

Nothing spotted this morning, just some dead trees from old peels.  Sky, I see what you are saying, I was hinking it meant you were in there bear hunting not just for another activity.  For example, if I saw some mushrooms while in there bear hunting, I would pick them, but I would not be in there just cruising looking for mushrooms.  I'll let the next one walk I guess.

Here is some clarification and requests that all key holders have received via email. I assume this is reponse to what has been discussed and posted in this thead as well as other. This is in no way an invitation to debate the request and reminder that has been made.


I have yet to hear of any harvest, but I know the bears are getting more and more active with each day of good weather. I hope all is well so far for your hunts. I do need to touch on a couple things regarding the access you have been granted.

I have received a few reports of activities and events that need to be clarified. First, this is viewed by all those involved as a damage hunt. Private timber companies, DNR, and WDFW came up with a standard that must be met and all of you were told in the meetings why. Getting vehicular access to all this land is a privilege and you have all agreed to hunt under the criteria presented to you in the meetings. You were granted access to hunt black bears, and black bears only. This does not include coyotes or targets. Please do not use your keys anywhere but within the unit you were drawn, and leave the gates in the position you encounter them.

Second, I would like to reiterate that if you see things that are out of the ordinary or questionable, we have provided you with a list of contact numbers to report these. You have my email and telephone number if you cannot reach enforcement. We covered this in the meeting as well. Please provide as much information as possible, so I can properly inform our enforcement, and they can respond by the most efficient means possible. This includes encounters with people/vehicles behind the gates that appear out of place, intoxicated individuals shooting weapons, garbage dumps that block gate access, and illegal timber harvest. Too much information, is better than not enough information.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Good communication and rule compliance will go a long way towards successful hunt programs in areas like those you were granted access. If I do not hear from you until then, enjoy the rest of your hunt,

So you can walk back and shoot a coyote but if you drive back and do it, thats a no-no.  I would like to see what they do aside from just get mad at you for shooting a coyote that comes into a bear set.

Either way, I'm glad they didn't say anything about bringing drunken spotters.   :IBCOOL:

Just kidding around of course. Everyone just needs to be good stewards of the areas we hunt...bag a few bears...and take care of the gates.
