Anybody hunt the 578/574 units?
« on: September 26, 2008, 09:24:36 PM »
Have you seen anything for deer up around there?  I haven't had the time to scout yet, and I was afraid there might have been a heavy winter kill.  Do things look good?

I hunted it heavy last year and use my buddies property close by.  Nothing but a few does.  I've never seen a buck.

I'm not going waste my time on it this year.

Were you hunting modern rifle/muzzleloader/archery?

I hunt blackpowder and I've always seen bucks.  Not always big ones, but I usually see horns.

there seems to be a little more action down there later in the season when the muzzleloaders can hunt.  i noticed that when i lived down there for a year.  saw a few deer in camps when snow was on the ground.

Last year I drew a multi-season and hunted it all.  I did see some does during early archery, but never got close enough.

When I folded up my gear and made the drive back to the camper, I almost hit 3 crossing the road...again, all does.

I have some friends that swear by the late season muzzleloader.  I didn't make it out for that one.

not much action going on in 578 right now,i've been archery hunting every weekend this month and have seen very few animals,I have a multi deer tag,I put a stalk on a real nice bear yesterday, I spotted him about 132yrds away, there was not enough cover to close the gap so I decided to try and beat him to the top of the ridge he was headed up on,well after an hour and not seeing him I think he found somewhere to take a nap on the way up, I never hunted blackbears with a bow but i'll tell you its a weird feeling when all you have is A bow and your trying to cut A bear off to get a shot ,needless to say I was A little nervous.

Yeah, he was #2 in Wash. State for blackpowder Cascade Blacktail.  And he came from 578.  Funny thing was, the guy ahead of me had about six of the top spots locked up for the same catagory, all from 578.

I always hunt muzzy for blacktail, and I was just trying to get a feel for how my season was going to go.   :dunno:
