Thanks for the encouragement. The turds I've been seeing are definitely more "protein" based, not "fiber" based (I'm becoming a turd expert); so agree with Brad's suggestion. Also, salmonberries are starting to show up, and have seen a few berry turds also.

I've been out since 0530 and have not seen any sign. Even called for an hour at a recommended spot.:-[

I am out all day today and tomorrow.  Good hunting weather at least.

Well, last day and I hit it hard, I drove, walked, glassed but at the end, no bears. Some sign, scat, and chewed up trees but nothing I could put a tag on. I did see a nice buck, some does, lots of grouse with chicks.  The grass in most sunny areas is almost up to my hip, it has changed dramatically in the last 2 weeks.

I have to say it was a great spring hunt and I am sold to continue to apply for the permit.  I saw a few, heard even more and learned a lot about spring bear hunting this year.

Huge thanks to Turner89 for giving me some spots to hunt, thanks to H2Ohunter and others on this site for keeping me motivated to be out in the field.

Key back to the WDFW on Tuesday.    :(

Thanks again all.....

You and your son will have to come back out here in August.  I heard you are going to Africa to do a little hunting?
i have to be up at 5:30, and in Issaqua for baseball tourney. Good luck over there.

Update from me... no bear. Hit it hard also, and was out 5 of the last 7 days. Yesterday from 4-8, and today 1-9. I also saw some grouse, a yearling coyote and a doe. Lots of bear turds in my spot, but nothing new since when they were fresh on Thursday. I didn't take the coyote; 300WM at 15 yards would have been a bit much; plus I didn't want my ears ringing for the next 4 hours... I still had bear hunting to do.

I did have some excitement this evening, I was walking up the road into some 5 year reprod that was still pretty open, and heard two bears, one on each side of the road (on my 10 and 2 o'clock) vocalizing the "apprehensive expression" on the bear web-site (http://www.bear.org/website/bear-pages/black-bear/communication/29-vocalizations-a-body-language.html). They went back and forth a total of three times... then all quite.  Very cool, to hear, but obviously they made me, and the cover was so thick I never saw them.

All in all, I had a great hunt, and am not disappointed at all for not filling my tag. I'm just one day closer, and one day wiser. To be honest, Thurs and Friday night I was pretty bummed on the drive home each night; and ready to throw in the towel. But, each day the next morning I was stoked and ready to go.... gotta love it.

Thanks to all who shared info with me... plus I had a hoot listening to the guys each evening on CB channel 8  out by Sultan; definitley entertaining.

For sure in August, I may have to touch base with you on summer tactics.
Yes on Africa, leaving Wednesday for 2 weeks. A few days in Dubai then a week hunting followed by a few days in Cape Town. Thank goodness for air miles and an auction I scored the hunt (minus trophy fees). I plan to keep an online journal,if u want the address you can pm me, I will send the web address and you can follow along on our trip.

Enjoy the baseball game!  Weathers going to be awesome.  I kinda miss watching the games already.

Thanks again for all your insight and help these past few weeks.

Dear Eldplanko,

I'm sorry I missed you out in the woods. I know you said that you would be there, however, I got my days messed up. It looks like you were there just a day early. See.....I showed up and you weren't there. I stayed for about a week coming and going to check and see if you were there. I was there in the morning, afternoon, and sometimes in the evening. I was eating all this tall stuff that somebody planted. These pesky pink things were getting in the way...so I kicked the hell out of them. I'm really sorry I missed you. After a week I gave up and quit coming back. Well, maybe we will connect in August.

Miss You,
Big Fat Bear

Dear Eldplanko,

I hope my last letter got to you and that you and yours are in good health. I told myself I wasn't going to do this but I feel compelled to write you again. You see, I wasn't completely honest with you. It wasn't you I wanted to meet....It was a sow. You see, she has these two cubs and was hanging around. I figure if I could whoop on those flamingos, eat some grass, maybe kill a cub or two, she would be impressed. Like I said, for days I came back, strutted around, even dropped a deuce the size of a poodle. Also, I believe she may have moved on. Maybe I was just to much of a boar for her.

Yours,
Big Fat Bear

Wow, Mr. Bear, you would have looked great on the floor in front of my fireplace. We'll meet again, I know where you live!

To be honest, I never went back to the flamingos after I found your spot. I guess I was paranoid getting caught on cam picking my nose or taking a leak. Great pics though, did you get one of my boy walking through there?

He is a brute....he would graze on my grass that I planted and just meander around. He hung out from the 2nd until about three days ago. I pulled the cam to put it out for elk. I have three pics of you and the boy.....You have the rifle slung and he is on your left. PM me your email and I'll send them out.

Dropped my keys off today  :(  I looked at the list, there were 4 on the list as harvested and reported so far (about half the keys were returned), too bad we didn't get more, but it wasn't because the gang didn't try!  I will be applying again next year!
