120 grains 777 loose powder. 250gr T/C shock wave. The vortek was deadly out of the box.

I really hope you are right...  That model has had a lot of problems with ignition.  You are asking a rifle that was made to shoot primers - then retrofitted to use caps and then to be reliable using caps. IMO only the firing pin is to small and the hammer spring is on the weak side, and finally the nipple - check the distance (length) of the powder from the ignition source.  That is all dead air space and it could really be cold air - loosing heat from a cap in that space could/can be a big problem.  But, possibly in your hunting area you might not get the zero weather we get here.

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

I wish a someone would do a gun review that really tested the most popular washington legal muzzleloaders.  Cap ignition would be of particular interest since I have  a NW Explorer that I would love if it did not have a history of failing to ignite caps. It just does not hit them hard enough.  Which guns?

CVA Elkhorn
Traditions Vortek
That other traditions rifle that has bolt action
Knight Disk Extreme/Ultralight
Knight Bighorn
T/C NW Explorer

What did I forget?

I know there were some issues with the earlier models. I have not had any problems yet, with the vortek. It is more accurate then both of my Knights. I have had mis-fires while hunting with my Remington and both of my Knights. I have not had 1 with the Vortek yet and I hope I don't. It's muzzle loading. Bugle, did you get the LDR model?

They fixed the misfire along time ago...

I shoot a 300 grain copper jacket with 150 grains of pyrodex pellets, killed 3 bulls with this setup now and the last was at 175 yards.

I know two people who purchased vorteks within a year and both have had broken nipples and firing issues.  When was the revision made? Another thing I had seen on some was the cerakote flaking off at the muzzle.
