No, it turns my stomach.  I don’t know the reasons behind the slaughter but I’d hope there would be a better way to cull the herd.

How do you cull the herd without killing them?

Part of the South African managment plan. No different the being over-run with, say, hogs here in the states...or maybe wolves? More like harvesting beef for the markets here in the states. PLUS, $'s go back into managment of these animals. Rather then a butcher putting a ballpean hammer or a .22 between the eyes of a bovine or hog, $'s are generated in the killing and butchering for the local populace..

I’ve killed cattle with a hammer, it’s not pleasant.  Shooting antelope from a helicopter seems about the same to me.  Doing the same to wolves or hogs doesn't bother me, but for some reason I think the antelope deserve better.  Maybe if I lived in Africa I’d see things differently.

Not everyone understands culling, I've seen it done in Australia and NZ, it's a necessary part of management to keep herds in line with habitat. More or less like shooting prairie dogs to prevent towns from growing too large.

I understand the point of culling, but it hurt to see those animals being chased down with a chopper and shot up. Im not going to say its the wrong approach but I could never be apart of that. To each there own.

Culling is necessary, and shooting from a Helicopter would definately be an adrenaline rush, but Helicopter fuel isn't cheap.  I would think it would be more cost effective to offer severely discounted cull hunts, the kind where you pay to shoot a Trophy but get 2-3 Cull for free.  Everyone benefits and I can guarantee you would have some extremely happy hunters telling all their friends they paid for one Trophy but got to actually harvest 4!  If after researching a hunt and I'm torn between two outfitters, if one offers free (or severely reduced) Cull hunts on top of the hunt I'm there for and the other doesn't.....SOLD!

This hunt is $100 per Blesbok. Pilot hit a G.P.S. at every shot, then the catcher crew gathers, dresses, then delivers to the local market for processing. Also avalable are pigs and a trophy Blue Wildebeast cull.

It seems to me the meat would not be very good with the animals being under stress when shot.  Like when you shoot a cow that has seen two of his buddies get shot, jumps through the fence and then gets shot.  Doesn't make for the best tasting meat.  Good for sausage,  or any spiced meat.

I wouldn't think they would be too picky. Any meat is good meat to them.

Wow that was crazy. I know it needed but man just seem wrong to kill that many. But there going to a good cause feeding the hungry i am all for it.

Yeah I am a hunter and not a killer sorry i just couldnt do that.  Glad the meat goes to great use.  Culling is needed but not my cup of tea
