Wolves and Indian Nations?

Question... Since the Indian tribes are sovereign nations and don't have to follow state game laws on the res and ceded land, would this also apply to wolves? Just something I was wondering about.

The Colville tribe has already started hunting them. I believe they only have to get approval from the feds.

If they do hunt them, by Indian law, they are required to eat them.   

That's why you don't hear much about the Indians hunting wolves.

Not at the moment Cement.   It will come out.    I don't know enough fact and I spend enough time up in those woods, I don't want to piss off the wrong people.   Besides, unless the government signs an affidavit or you can google it, no one believes it on here.

Good enough Bone. Don't want you so say anything you don't want to. And I forgot to say first off I definitely don't want this turning into a native bashing thread. Please delete it if it does. Just was thinking that encouraging native hunting on wolves would be a good legal way of getting through the bureaucracy.

They don't need permission from the feds at all. As long as they are no longer listed under the ESA the Tribes can do whatever they want with them.

Once they are no longer protected under the ESA they fall under either state or tribal/reservation management. The wolves that are still in the protected areas/zones still fall under the jurisdiction of the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

Same goes with migratory birds. While the Muckleshoot Tribe (example) can make their own deer season, they must follow USFWS laws regarding migratory bird hunting. Tribes can petition for amended tribal seasons, and a couple do in WA but not all of them.
