Not to keep picking at it but why would you not clean your birds from the first day?  I have never heard of anyone just putting the birds in the cooler with all the feathers still on it.  Did you just gut them?

Obviously I'm confused.

Unless it's pretty warm, birds will keep a day or 2 easy.  Many old timers used to hang their birds for days.  If they are kept in a cool place out of the sun, espeacially hung up, you shouldn't have a problem.

Looks like you guys had a good time.  My buddy and I hit the Yakima Lower Valley yesterday and after about nine hours of hunting came up with only  a single Quail.  We saw around 10 Hens and 2 Roosters.  The Roosters flushed about a 100 yards to soon.  It was good to see the hens, because until yesterday we hadn't seen very many.  We thought we would have had a very good hunt yesterday with all the snow, but that was not the case.

Nothing wrong with that Haul.   :brew:

There is nothing wrong with hanging or storing the birds as long as its cold out.  I have heard stories of people hanging ducks until the heads fall off, not sure I would go that far, but a few days is actually good for the meat.
Will hunt for food.
