.17 HMR Short Range Tactical ;)
« on: March 11, 2013, 09:01:10 PM »
So I have had this NEF .17 HMR Sporter laying around for a few years now.  Since I have lots of .17 ammo also, I thought I would build it into a short range, out to 300 yards, tactical sniper of sorts.  Here is my start, I camo'd the barrel.  I've started on the action but I am waiting for the tactical stock and the scope to show up before I do anymore painting.  I figured if I meesed up on the barrel, I could easily strip it and start over.

Yup, those "rabbits" can be killers ya know.  Little easter eggs full of Tanerite is pretty fun at 100 yards.

Here it sits waiting for the scope, then I can finish the camo job.

What kind of scope? does it have the built in drop?

So we took this little 17hmr out today after church to see how it would do.  Pretty calm day, just a slight breeze coming from the right of the target.  We sighted it in at 100 yards and shot easy 1/2 moa.  So then we went out to 300 yards and dialed in 12 moa rise as JBM suggested for the little 17 gran bullet.   Hit low each time, so we dialed in and ended with a 15 moa at 300 yards.  After figuring out the real world drop, we were taking out clays at 300 yards with ease.  Not to bad for a $200 rifle! We forgot to take the camera with us to prove all this but will remember it next time.  All in all it was a great afternoon with my kids.
