:yeah:

 :yeah:

I killed a bear with my 240 grain xtps and it worked great. 264# er to boot at 40 yards. One shot kill. 240 grainers are more than sufficient. :twocents:

"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

Tons of good bullets for the 44.  But probably more game has been killed with  remington 240gr softpoint than everything else combined.

But, but.....those are not 300 grain catchy named bullets. After watching the good ol' Winchester white box jsp 240's make a pass through on a buck I hit at 80ish yards and the ensuing damage, and killing another the following year with a 325gr big fat meplat hardcast.....and remembering the two hit with 300gr xtp's.....unless I was in true big bear country (Alaska) I would worry less about color and more about accuracy, reliability and function in my gun.

Anyone used the Underwood Ammo?  I'm thinking of buying a box or two to use until I can find powder for reloading, oh and bullets.    :bash:  I'm looking at the 240gr xtp which they are pushing at 1400fps for 1000+ ft-lbs.

I also found some 240 xtp's but a little spendy.  Noone has these bullets in stock, except as ML sabots.  I found some $7/20 which is only $35/100, not too bad compared to "normal" prices.  If purchaased, I could always use them in my ML as well.

240 xtp's are a good bullet in the 44. Good luck on the powder hunt.
When I pass, do not let my wife sell the guns for what I told her they cost.

Not sure where you see 240's other than in 50 cal sabots, and I have found those for half the price of Midway's.  I have a 30-06 I can use instead of plastic bullets.   ;)  Closest thing would be the flat nose 265s but I am buying a box of 240's and would like to reload those if they shoot well.

I have a line on 16# OF WIN 296.  The guy says the seals are loose on both cans.  Would that be a problem if the lids have been tight?  Anyone interested in some powder if I can get a hold of this, I don't think I would use 16# in a lifetime of shooting the 44.   :chuckle:  Please PM me and let me know what you would be willing to pay per pound so I know if I should take this guy up on it if he makes me an offer of the powder.

296 in the classifieds
$30.00 a pound its high but what are you going to do when you cant find it.

http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,120966.msg1595671/topicseen.html#new

8#'s will run you probably no less then $160.00, regular prices were $135.00 to $155.00

Will hard cast 240gr bullets loaded between 1,100-1,200fps? work well on deer  out to 50yd? Will the Hornady 240 XPT expand at these vel's? I have a S&W 29 and don't want to beat it up shooting 300gr bullets or heavy loaded 240's.

Yes th hardcast will work well.....go fat on the meplat. The xtp, I have killed with the 300 in the 1300 range and never recovered a bullet.....so my guess is absolutely.
