Purina Deer Chow?

Was at Dels and saw that they had a Purina Deer Chow block. 30 lbs. Lots of protein, fat, salt, calcium.


Has anyone ever tried one of these? Do the deer like em better then a regular salt or mineral lick? It looked kind of yummy to me I figured it might be a hit!

My cows liked them but the blacktails around here wouldn't touch them no matter what time of year.  They would eat grass and clover around the block and not give it a second look.  It would probably do fine for whities, they will eat anything.  They also wouldn't touch Purina Deer Chow in the pellet form.  That got eaten by the squirrels.

Hmm thats really weird. I guess with the abundance of food on the westside they can snub their nose at stuff like that huh?

Yeah, I have tried everything from alfalfa, cob, cmeerdeer blocks, pellets etc and it all winds up being eaten by other critters.  The deer around my place would rather eat berry vines, acorns, apples or clover over so called deer attractants.     Now at my buddy's place in Republic, I have seen whitetails chase off his chickens to eat the scratch that he just threw out for them.

I go thru thousands of pounds of deer chow a year in Winthrop but at our grandparents house down by Belfair the deer won't eat it. Buy apples

I've tried everything on black tails, seems like apples are the only thing they will touch.  Anything else?

where I feed the MULE deer as long as you brake it up they love it.  if you leave the block whole they won't touch it so you have to brake it into small chunks.  Apples are good to attract them but theres not much nutritional value there so you should attract them to a good food.  I used to use purina deer chow blocks, surrounded by purina deer chow pellets mixed with whole corn and mixed in apples here and there.

The deer here eat Dels Allstock, and Coastal's Livestock pellets.  If I'm not getting any interest, I will bust up a couple of apples on it to get them there, they usually clean it up after that.  They also eat pumpkins, beat greens, carrot tops, salal, cedar greens, and lots of other stuff, especially if I've left the greenhouse door open.

Only if it gets wet.  It doesn't last long enough here to get wet.     I also have a feeder with a roof.

I tried a few of the blocks and the blacktails wouldn't touch them.  So they eventually got rained on and turned into a mush pile.  My deer buffet consisted of 4 of those blocks, a few bags of corn, a few salt blocks and lots of apples.  The only thing they touched were the apples.

I'm going to try salt blocks this year for blacktails.  I tried them last year, but I didn't get them out until after their horns were pretty much done growing.  I'm hoping they use them this spring and summer.

cull aples and alfalfa...guaranteed won't be there in the morning.
