remington 20g 870 youth model questions.
« on: March 21, 2013, 02:22:35 PM »
Hi all.
I just picked up a youth model 870 20 gauge for the girlfriend to shoot, and possibly use for duck season this year.

My question is, did the youth model guns have any common problems I need to remedy to make sure it remains reliable, and keeps the experience enjoyable for the User?

I know I had to hone my chamber on a 870 I bought new 4 years ago to keep it cycling high base brass reliably.
I'm not sure how old this one is, but it was in good shape and I got a decent deal I think. Clean gun, nice finish, looks to have very little use. Paid 240$ otd. Cant pick it up till next week. I almost always get a week hold during the background check  :bash:

go back in today and have them run you again and I almost 100% guarentee you'll get cleared today.  My name is John Jones.  I get put on hold everytime too.  I learned long ago that, if you wait about 2 hours and have them run you again, you get cleared right away.  Every gun I've ever bought worked just like this

That's not a bad idea. I bought a tri-star semi auto a couple years ago and git put on hold, bout 3 hours later I found an 11-87 ( the gun I really wanted, but couldn't pay 750$+ for) on sale for 499$. Got cleared to take it home, and got to cancel my order for the tristar! Win win. Figured back then that it was just luck of the draw.

My 870 Youth model was a great gun, used it for ducks and steel upland hunting for many years and gave it to my daughter and grand daughter out on the ranch.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

There is a reason the 870 is the most popular shotgun ever sold. They are virtually bullet proof.

That is a great idea. I get delayed all the time as well. I will have to try that next time.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is who you actually are while your reputation is merely who others think you are.

Never went back to try and pick it up, I can wait till next week. Took the gf to ranch and home today, she spotted the same exact gun I just bought and commented how she liked it, cause it was just like mine but her sized.

Told her good, cause I just bought her one. Shes pretty stoked.

Family that plays together stays together

Glad to hear there was no youth specific quirks I need to address, thanks for all the feedback!

Great choice getting your Female a 870 youth. They are great shotguns and will be as reliable as any other 870. They are a real winner.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

It'll help to let the clerk know ahead of time.  You might get a weird look if you just show back up asking to be ran again in a few hours
