What kind of budget are you working with?

I would like to keep it below $400 but I am not opposed to saving up for a little while also.
I was seeing some Merkel model eights going for $375.

If your seeing Merkel #8s for anywhere near $400, you shouldn't be passing those up!!  The last Merkel I bought was a low end gun and I stole it at $2500

I just got a reloader for doing shotgun shells so that wouldn't be a problem but I'm sure bismuth shot is expensive.

I am sure it's a Merkel grade 8. A co worker found a website that is selling firearms that are being imported from Sweden at really low prices so that's part of the reason I have been looking at the sxs's

Reading the descriptions, those Merkels sound kinda beat. I really clean #8 is only a 1K gun.

A few that I saw mostly had a broken stock.  Looked like metal was in good shape.

I saw a lot of 80% blue, they sound like a decent deal, but not good enough.

My dad has several Merkels.  He likes the SxS.  I shoot like crap with them.  Not sure why as I shoot O/U and everything else very well.  The SxS have my number.  Nice guns though and great wood on them.  I think he has about $4k and more into each one.  One of them a lot more.
I would go with a Holland and Holland personally.   :yike:
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

that website looks like a great place to buy a big steaming hunk of crap to hang on the wall. or you could call it a fixer upper project and sink two or three grand into it to get functional.

guns are investments. do you want to make a good investment by waiting and saving some money on a gun actually worth something or a broke down pile a crap you might get a season or two out of at best?

if you could inspect them in person that would be one thing, but your at the mercy of the person trying to sell you something... from sweden? Run away.

not to mention the price goes up with FFL, shipping, and Wa state sales tax.
