a regulated shed season! are you kidding me? you think those hippies and moneymakers would abide by a season?   we have so called "ethical" hunters on this website that start chasing animals before they take down their christmas trees! :bash:  if you cant wait til spring to put your hands on some bone.....well capitol hill is where you should look! ha ha

There should be a shed hunting season.
How many points would it take to draw a Blues elk or Entiat deer shed permit do you think? :chuckle:

That's a good point. All a season would do is keep the honest people honest. People are still going into Oak Creek every year before the first of May. Until they attach harsher penalties to it people will just keep doing it. Perhaps $1,000 per bone and loss of hunting privileges for 5 years Would make people think twice?

For the health of the animals recovering from the rigors of winter it should be a felony to haze, harass and push wildlife from the end of hunting season till the 1st of May imo.

.. it is just a bone.

 :yeah:

I’ll never understand the obsession.  Just chew toys for the dog.

When someone coughs up $10 large for 400 inch set, it goes to peoples heads.  I'd be ok with a shed season or blocked access to some areas till the elk and deer haved moved out.  But, then again, I'm not a shed guy.

A felony? What if I was trail running or hiking to stay in shape and jumped some deer or a herd of elk? Should I be charged with a felony? I agree that the the idiots need to leave em alone, but to put that steep of a penalty on spooking some animals is a little harsh. Might as well stay out of the hills till July then.

I don't start until most all of the bone has hit the ground. I usually figure by Easter. By that time everyone else has the elk scattered from here to Seattle. Every year seems like it gets worse and worse. As soon as some people get the slightest whiff of maybe one bull that has dropped some bone they're up there trying to be the first one. People just need to have some courtesy. If I see elk or deer I'll try to find a way around without disturbing them. If I jump them accidentally, I stop and let them move off and wait. Then head off in a different direction. I figure there's no antler that's worth all that. But you will always have people who just don't give a crap. I think a season would be worthless without stiffer penalties. Oak Creek has been closed for years until May 1st but there's still people going in there. It's just impossible to patrol everything. There needs to be more of a deterrent.

they were  up patroling yesterday is what I heard.
Good. I just wish they could do more to them if they catch them.

So....maybe somebody can help me understand the level of fanaticsm some folks are going to. I'm speaking of the comments about chasing, harassing, and sometimes being offroad when not supposed to be. Now, I've not killed elk, will be going on my first elk hunt this year, have not shed hunted for their horns, and am not assuming I am some great hunter. However, are those that chase bone with such abandon that they are such poor hunters they are looking to hang a pair of antlers on the wall that way? Is it for profit that some act this way? Bragging rights only?
money....antler is valuable, like weeds, and timber, and many other resources.....and then there is the who can get the most mentality.....greed its the American way

This is why people shed hunt! For a chance at finding something like this. 217" Gross

I shed hunt for the physical chase, Its like looking for eggs durring easter. Its just fun. I could care less about making money from them. For god sakes they're not dinosaur bones, They're uhh bones, that fall off they're head, year after year, untill someone or something kills them, or they just die. It would be great to find a huge rack, yeah of course, But thats just icing on the cake. I have a blast shed hunting and never finding anything. I find all kinds of other cool stuff. Nothin like falling through rotting stumps and jumping over fallen trees and into ankle high mud/puddles. Thats the stuff I live for. Having an adventure.

Elkslayer....I understand the passion for a tropy....when it comes to hunting. I guess I'm just not wired to think that the acts that occur and make shed hunters look bad are worth it. Now....like hunting, fishing, whatever...I'm sure it is the minority that make the majority look bad.

That set is one awesome set of bone.
