shed hunting has gotten very popular the last few years. some to sell them, some to make lamps or other decor, or others like me that throw them into a pile. its the idiots that are trying to be the guys that find a bunch of sheds that are chasing the bulls around like idiots. now if i saw someone on a quad chasing bulls trying to get them to drop then i would definetly call a game warden for harrasment. but to be hiking, looking for sheds, and kicking a few elk out of a draw because of someones presence, thats not harrasment. that just enjoying the great outdoors. all a shed hunting season would do is make the honest people buy a tag and make the honest people wait to start hiking for sheds. when the dishonest people are still going to sneak in. and most of them will not be caught. doing nobody any good and just making it an even worse situation. i think theres a lot of people that are mad that shed hunting has gotten so popular. probably because they arent finding near as many sheds as they use to. and with the economy and the rate of unemployment a lot more people can go during the week instead of waiting till the weekends to be out hiking.

My advice is this and its what im doing. keep hiking and searching and just enjoy the outdoors. i dont find sheds every time i go out. but being out in the woods and not finding a shed is still a hell of a lot better day than at work. okay im done ranting

Thats fine, I go on my hikes, and while Im hiking I just stop here and there and take a peek around. Im not a hardcore shed hunter, With a shed finding dog, and a truck to haul out elk sheds taller then myself. I just like to be out in the woods away from everyone..
Guess Im not really a shed hunter... Some people on here should be called shed finders.. I know virtually nothing about hunting, deer, elk, bear, cougar, small game... Other than they taste delicious and I want to get into a new lifestyle... Which Is why I'm on here... To learn :chuckle:

Smossy!  Your opinions on shed hunting and about other shed hunters is a bit strong to then just claim your on this site "to learn".  In order to truly learn about something and develop sound personal philosophies (opinions) you need to avoid having strong opinions from the get go.  Just saying....  "Wondering aimlessly" is not how the guys that consistently find their antlers approach shed hunting.  It would be something closer to spending more time out during the winter months watching, photographing, learning migratory routes, etc....in order to know the general or exact location of quality Bucks and/or Bulls.  As a result of doing this year after year they know exact locations and dates to find shed antlers.  One last thing, until you have spent time keeping tabs on a bull or buck you will not understand the frustration the initial poster of this thread felt when he watched someone illegally chase that bull out of an area.

so if there is a season will i be accused of shed hunting out of season when im just out for a hike ? are all woods just going to be closed down during the winter months ?? with the "guilty until proven innocent" mentality of most gamies i could see this turning me into a law breaker since im not going to stop being in the woods during the winter....

not everyone is out for sheds...

Gamedepartment needs to make a simple law. The areas are marked well if u get caught u lose ur hunting privelages for the upcoming year with a steep fine...  that would stop a huge portion of the cheaters... no shed seasons just b aware of the small areas u cant go in..the mountains r endless and sheds r everywhere, not just the feeding station! glad to c there r others that share the same opinion ..
