Anyone hunt the high alpine buck hunt??
« on: March 18, 2013, 06:26:21 AM »
I am trying to set up a hunt in one of the wilderness areas and not sure where to start. I want to get in there a few miles (5-10) and camp. I don't want to use an outfitter. I was thinking about getting as high as i could and hunt the alpine meadows? Any info would be great, thank you

Also, check out the "backcountry hunting" section, lots of good info there.

too many people and too hot on those september high hunts, better to just stick to general season in oct.

Your original post sounded about right. If your able to pack all your gear in 5-10 miles then you shouldn't have much of a problem finding a nice secluded basin to yourself. Get up high and glass. Nothing beats the high hunt.

I would like to try it someday but always gets in the way of early archery elk hunting.
