Ivermec do anything to keep them at bay like the other bugs that jump on and hitch a ride? That's the cheapest your going to get and it kills all but tapeworms.

It's good for heartworms, watch the dosage if you're not using the chewables and be doubly careful if you're using it on a breed that has a sensitivity to it. On that last part, check out the links below.

There's really nothing to prevent a tick or a flea from hitching a ride. The topicals like Frontline are really your best defense outside of looking over your dog after hunts.

put a big glob of vaseline on the tick. the vaseline will make the tick back out a little because it won't be able to breath and it will be much easier to remove with little chance of leaving the head behind to abscess.

When I had snakes and they got ticks, I would cover them up like that and they would back out so as to not suffocate. Olive oil worked well too.

Yup, between the scales. I had big snakes...13' albino burmese python and 2 boa's 5' and 8'.
I don't remember all there was to it but it was a common issue. This was when I lived back east so the biology of all of it could be different geographically.
