OUCH!
« on: March 18, 2013, 03:12:11 PM »
Went up and picked up one of my cameras that I was snowed out of earlier. I was suprised to get a picture of this guy on there. Suprised how tough these animals are, wonder if he made it through the winter?

Ya, I kind of doubt it too. I'll have to get back in there when I get some more time and see if I cant locate him. Not sure what happened to him, possibly a bad shot from a hunter, who knows. :dunno:

They seem to be able to do a lot better missing a back leg than a front.  Two years ago, my wife shot one here missing a front leg, it could hardly go 20 feet without piling up.  It was healed over but it was definitely starving to death.  One antler even popped off when I was dragging him on Thanksgiving day.  WDFW gave her a new tag since he was sour and inedible.

That's a nice looking buck.

Maybe he had something wrapped around it that cut off the circulation and it died :dunno:

Sounds likely. Looks like the flesh died and just fell right off.

:yeah:  These animals are tougher than you think. If a predator didn't run him down he's probably fine. We killed a 3 legged coyote once, that was the fattest and heaviest coyote we ever got.

The third pic sure looks like there's a butt wound (ala wolf chewing out the butt...).

Look at the base of the tail, no blood on that big white flag.  The leg wound is just turned toward the back making it look a bit like the deer's rear.  It's all leg IMHO.
