Just curious, my nephew just got back from a hunter safety course here in washington. The instructor stated that it was against the law to have a loaded magazine anywhere in the vehicle, not even anywhere near the gun in washington state. And went on to say that a loaded magazine or clip in the vehicle without a gun even in the vehicle constitues a loaded weapon violation. I looked on everything I could find on linel, along with the most current wa state gun laws, updated about 3 weeks ago. And cannnot find anything on this subject. I know Ohio adopted this law, and there may be others. I dont understand why they would, but they did. Can anyone help me with an answer whether this is real, for wa state. And if it is, can you give me the specific statute/ #. Thank you

Thanks for that, I was talking long guns as they relate to hunting. 

For personal protection handguns this does not apply.

Magazine/ammo is not a firearm, so yes.

I knew I was right,I use to be a firearm instructor for the dept. But now adays dont keep close track of all the new laws. My brother, my nephews Father was there and confered that the instructor stated that. I will be going to the next class and setting him straight.

Magazine/ammo is not a firearm, so yes.

Absolutely correct.  You can have all the loaded magazines you want, for whatever firearm you want, anywhere in your vehicle and on your person and it is not illegal.  Of course the exception being places where firearms/ammunition are specifically prohibited.

     (5) For purposes of subsection (1) of this section, a rifle or shotgun shall not be considered loaded if the detachable clip or magazine is not inserted in or attached to the rifle or shotgun.

Perhaps the instructor was telling your nephew about certain magazines he shouldn't be taking with him on a hunt. Stories do get twisted, you know.

A concealed weapons permit is actually a Concealed Pistol License in this state is is NOT good foe any kind of other weapon.

ya no wrong as long as it's not in the rifle i'ts ok friend of mine got popped for that years ago  lol and had to pay a $80 fine. He thought as long as it wasn't in the chamber he was good but gamie said no lol. so ya loaded clip/magazine in the seat or dash as long as not in the gun is ok.
Pistol not so sure on think it's gota be out of site and unloaded if you have a concealed permit.

With a CPL you can have the pistol loaded and on your person or laying in the vehicle as long as you are in the vehicle. If you exit the vehicle and leave the pistol in the vehicle then it has to stored out of sight and the vehicle has to be locked up.

All wildlife infractions are NOW a misdemeanor and have a mandatory court appearance in the county you made the infraction.

Thats so the county can add fees for court costs onto your fines.........county gets theirs, wdfw gets theirs...
