"Bill would let farmers kill attacking wolves"http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2020590735_wolfbillxml.htmlI'm not seeing the strong opposition to this bill that I have seen for others. Sure groups like CNW are coming out against it, but there arent the flurry of emails, mailers, or social media activity that I would normally see. It seems like maybe there is some lip service going on.......
My response to the Seattle-ites and west side vegans:"97% of our population eats meat. 92% of our population eats at least some red meat. Ranchers provide that meat. Unless you're a vegetarian, you depend on ranchers for your burgers, hotdogs, steaks, and corned beef St. Patrick's Day dinners. They work very hard, often 20 hours a day, for little or no profit, depending on the year. Keeping them from being able to protect their assets is the same as someone stopping any of us from going to work in the AM. You get up tomorrow, take a shower, eat your eggs and sausage, walk out to go to work and someone sticks a gun in your face and says, "No work for you today. Go back inside" How would you feel? What if that happened one day of every week, how would you pay your bills? This is what is happening to the ranchers when they can't protect their cattle. The wolves aren't residing in Seattle where you sit comfortably writing rants against the farmers in the east. They don't live in Seattle because they were all killed to build Seattle. You who blast the ranchers for what they have to do live somewhere it's already been done to make room for you to live. I understand there are vegans posting here. You represent less than 0.5% of our population. I understand that you don't think animals should be killed for any reason. You must understand that you are extreme, a tiny portion of society, and almost everyone else lives off animal flesh, labor, and skin, and if you're honest, you're probably wearing a leather belt or shoes right now. You get more of a say than is your representation in society and that is especially true with this issue. You don't have to like wolves being killed. But, you must try and understand that they don't belong everywhere (that's why there are none in Seattle), and that, like wolves, man has also existed here for millennia, killing wolves and other animals, and making a place and living for himself. Man is part of nature whether you admit it or not."
Most people will listen to reason. Although most of the people who post on that topic aren't reasonable, the reasonable ones who do or read it will be able to relate to a valid comparison. Those are the people I want to reach. I don't don't give a crap about the others.
