Fishing the Hoh and Sol Duc for steelhead
« on: March 16, 2013, 11:20:00 AM »
Heading to forks next week for some steelhead fishing. Wondering if anyone has any idea how the rivers and fishing are looking?

They were punched a couple days ago.

My cousin is being guided down the Sol Duc today. He originally was booked to go down the Hoh but there has been way too much rain and that river takes a while to get back in shape. From what he was told, fishing has been decent up until this last rain blew things out. Whoever his guide is landed five nice natives on his last drift with all the fish in the upper teens.

Heard they were both on fire yesterday and thursday.  A couple boats with close to 20 fish landed, the biggest being about 20 lbs.
Just watch the river levels and it should be a good predicter.

Just left Forks from visiting family. Did not see the Hoh but can assume high and dirty. Sol Duc was perfect for plunking, a little high and probably 3 feet visibility at the bridge by Whitcomb/Dimmel Rd..

Seen a boat, flyfisherman, launching on the Riverside run (upper Sol Duc) at noon or so in a blizzard.

Was raining and snowing mixed, 39 degree's

Min level for the Hoh is 2000 max. better at 1500 to 1700 on down to even1200!
Duc will be perfect tomarrow.
Calawah should be prime today.
Got some rain and showers coming. tues and wed have rain forecasted. but should keep the duc and calawah in good shape.

My cousin said that the Sol Duc was high but plenty fishable Saturday. They landed five fish with one being a nice fresh buck in the lower 20s. Smallest was about 10 lbs.

I know of a guide who landed 2 30+ pounders within 15 minutes of each other last week on one of those rivers.

Good luck.  The rivers were out earlier in the week, but back fine now.  Also, the snow was down to 500 ft on Friday morning for a little bit, so good conditions lining up.
