ACTION ALERT: U.S. Senate Sets Stage for Gun Control Votes
« on: April 12, 2013, 12:30:52 PM »
Please take action immediately!

Some of you may already get these ALERTS directly from the NRA, but many do not.  This ALERT is being posted to ensure it gets out to as many freedom loving Americans as possible.

People in this country need to wake up and realize we are on the cusp of losing our cherished rights and freedoms. Any erosion of our rights guaranteed under the Second Amendment will erode all of our rights and freedoms guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.  The entire foundation of individual rights and freedoms depends on the protection and defense of the U.S. Constitution and ALL ten amendments in the Bill of Rights.

There are many legislative representatives at all levels of national, state, and local governments that appear to be taking positions that reflect Socialism on many issues including gradually surrendering our sovereignty to the United Nations.  Socialism does not recognize individual rights and freedoms; Socialism is NOT freedom.

Taking away the ability of the people to defend themselves is the first step to subjugate the people.

Please take advantage of the NRA-ILA Write Your Reps tool to communicate to all of your representatives at the same time.  Leave all of the boxes checked to ensure all of your representatives get the loud and clear message that you are NOT willing to give up your rights and freedoms.

It only takes about 1-minute to stand up for your rights and have your voice be heard.

http://nraila.org/get-involved-locally/grassroots/write-your-reps.aspx

Please pass this on to ALL of your freedom loving family, friends, and colleagues.

Thank you.

NRA-ILA SPECIAL ALERT (4-11-13)

U.S. Senate Sets Stage for Gun Control Votes

"Today (April 11), by a vote of 68-31, the U.S. Senate voted to move forward with debate and votes on a variety of gun control proposals.

The underlying bill that will be considered by the Senate is S. 649, the so-called “Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013”.  This bill would criminalize the private transfer of firearms by law-abiding citizens, requiring friends, neighbors and many family members to get government permission to exercise a fundamental right or face prosecution.   It is expected that a number of amendments will be offered to S. 649, including a ban on commonly and lawfully-owned firearms and magazines and language to criminalize the private transfer of firearms through an expansion of background checks.  This includes the misguided “compromise” proposal drafted by Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

NRA’s position on these proposals is unmistakably clear—we are unequivocally opposed to S. 649, the amendments mentioned above, and any other anti-gun amendments.   As we have noted previously, expanding background checks at gun shows or elsewhere will not reduce violent crime or keep our kids safe in their schools.  Given the importance of these issues, votes on all anti-gun amendments or proposals will be considered in NRA’s future candidate evaluations.

If the Senate is truly concerned about enhancing safety, rather than political grandstanding, it will replace the current provisions of S. 649 with language that is properly focused on addressing mental health inadequacies; prosecuting violent criminals; and keeping our kids safe in their schools.

The next round of votes on these measures are likely to occur on Tuesday, April 16.

The most important thing NRA members and Second Amendment supporters can do right now is to call, email, write and fax their U.S. Senators, urging them to oppose S. 649 and all anti-gun amendments to that bill, and to encourage your family, friends and fellow firearm owners to do the same. To identify and contact your legislators in Washington, D.C., you can use the "Write Your Reps" [http://nraila.org/get-involved-locally/grassroots/write-your-reps.aspx]feature at www.NRAILA.org [http://www.nraila.org/], or you can reach your member of Congress by phone at 202-224-3121.

Is getting worked up over Senate bill for naught?

Are gun rights activists getting all worked up over nothing, now that the U.S. Senate has voted to open debate on new gun control legislation that focuses on expanded background checks?

There are few people in the ranks of gun owners, hunters, or the general population that have the time, or legal expertise to read all the gun control bills flooding our legislative assemblies in their entirety, or to fully understand the consequences.  Unfortunately, many representatives that vote on these bills also do not have the time or expertise to read them in their entirety, or to fully understand what the true consequences may be.  Remember Obama Care and Pelosi’s infamous statement, “But we have to pass the [health care] bill so that you can find out what’s in it....”.

There are several organizations that fight for our rights and freedoms to keep and bear arms, hunt, and fish.  We must depend on the guidance from these organizations because they are very seasoned in these battles.  They are the experts that are committed to protect and defend our rights and freedoms.  They have the legal expertise, the legal resources, and the dedicated time to read and understand proposed legislation to determine if it will threaten or strengthen our rights and freedoms.  If these organizations urge their membership to oppose or support specific legislation, we would all be well served to follow their recommendations.  I would encourage all hunters and gun owners to join and/or support these organizations (see the list below).

A fact that is very clear to all of us is that there is an undeniably clear anti-gun agenda promoting this flood of gun control bills.  The anti-gun factions are riding on a wave on emotion resulting from the malevolent acts of a madman; they intend to gain as much ground as they possibly can to take away our gun rights and freedoms.

Here are a couple of familiar ‘sayings’ to remember when you observe what the anti-gun factions are doing.

•   How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.

•   Divide and conquer.

Here is a list of some of the national organizations that fight for our rights and freedoms related to hunting and firearms.  Please join them; they are the best way for us to be informed and work as a united front.
