Steelhead fishing on the snake
« on: October 01, 2008, 02:50:04 PM »
Is there any steelhead fishing on the Snake in October? I don't even know if it is open. We had the idea to take the boat and go and deer hunt and fish the same trip from the boat. Thanks...

I have heard that it is starting to get good on the lower snake and up in ringgold. I know it gets hot up river toward the middle of the month and never forget about the Grande Ronde. You will kill em down there in October.

i was wanting to fish somewhere between Asotin and Lewiston. Unless you have better ideas... The hunting is seconday. I hunt heavy in the late season for deer.

October is the best time to be on the Snake up near the mouth of the Ronde. There should be plenty of steellies and a few fallies in the river. Jigs under a float, bait under a float and hardware can catch you fish up there. Of course, standard drift gear will work as will plugs, etc.

I was out this morning fishing smallmouth in Clarkston. Judging from the number of boats running the river and at the mouth of the Clearwater they must be doing real good.

Is there a site we could post a link to that monitors the Snake and Grand Ronde? if so send it to me and I'll make a permanent addition to the fishing threads.
