Night Force Scopes !

How many of you have one  ..?  I would like to own one but the price is just crazy ...I really can not see forcing myself to dish out that kinda money over a rifle scope ...maybe I should head up to the casino and see if I can win a couple grand and then I will buy one

I had a 12-42 BR model for a while. It was a great scope, there's no debating that.

I replaced it with a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 when I decided to step down in magnification. Optically, the SIII was 95% of the Night Force for half the price. I was feeling pretty good about the Sightron until the reticle started to rotate on me and my adjustments stopped tracking. It was mounted on my 375 BME (375 RUM Improved), so I think that I just beat it up. It's at Sightron being repaired right now. Mine may have just been a bad sample. I do really like the feel of the adjustments on the SIII, and I like the MOA reticle.

The one optic I keep coming back to is the Leupold Mk4 ER/T line. I've had 3 of them now and I never had a problem with any of them. The aren't as expensive as a comparable Night Force, but they certainly aren't cheap! I fell in love with the FFP TMR reticle and M5 turrets. MOA turrets and a MIL reticle just don't make any sense to me. To my eyes, the Sightron has better glass than the Mk4, but the Mk4 has proven to be a tougher scope.

If you don't need the specialized reticle from the Night Force or Mk4 scopes, the VX 3-L scopes are a good alternative. I'm looking at a 4.5-14x50 VX3-L to go on one of the bolt action pistols. I'm considering trying one of the Vortex line of scope as well.

I've got a 5.5x22x56 mounted on my 50 BMG. Bought it after I talked to other BMG owners who top their guns with the Night Force. Great optics and stand up to the shock of the big gun.

I have run a few rifles with nigh force scopes. I have never felt like the extra price was worth it. My vx3's and the mk4's are half to 1/3 less and have never let me down.

Me and york are on the same page. Great glass but save 500+ and buy a leupold if you are going to go high end.

i was considering one but ended up with a vortex viper PST FFP. it was just over half the price and has most all the features of the NF and MOA/MOA. i like it a ton so far. havent stretched the range out on it yet but will very soon.

Midway USA has a bunch of Night Force scopes on sale right now. If you want one, this would the time to take the plunge.

i stretched out my PST to 815 yards yesterday, and it tracked right back to my 220 yard zero! i know it isnt a nightforce, but i think it will do good for me.

This is pretty much exactly what I was going to post.  I would love to have a NF on my 5R but I dont think that my skill (or ammount of shooting or shooting distance) is going to out perform what I have now.

I don't own a NF but I have shot a fair amount of guns that have them mounted on them. They are a great scope and if I had the extra $$$$ I would own a couple. I know some of the guys that build the scopes in Orofino and they will beat the ever living hell out of a scope and it will not lose zero! For some of the larger caliber rifles with the heavier recoil I would not hesitate to get a NF scope they are built tougher than others!

I have several of them.  For 100% reliability and durability, they are tough to beat.  The adjustments move as they are supposed and are consistent.  Glass is good, hard to tell the difference between them and my Schmidt and Bender.  Nightforce is definitely worth the money if a guy can swing one.

I have 3 NF scopes, two VX3's and few of the mentioned others.  The NF scopes I have are all on guns I dial up and down for yardage.  All the others are hold over shooting rifles.

IMO, if you mostly or always do hold over shooting, you likely don't need or won't use the benefits of a NF scope but if you do much long range hunting/shooting where you dial up for extended yardage, NF will QUICKLY prove their worth.

Leupold, has good glass but for my eyes, NF is noticeably better.

A true work horse, completely repeatable. I like the Leupold MK4 series but have had issues with the Leupold LR's repeatability while working the knobs at distance. I really like USO(Built like a tank) scopes but can't tell a difference between them and Nightforce when it comes to clarity. Screw first focal plane and screw Mil knobs, I'll take a NightForce with a Mil-Dot reticle and MOA knobs any day over pretty much anything out there.

I have a NF 3.5-15x50, F-1, Mil Mil!!!

It is definately a "working optic", I can go to 800 yards with just the reticle (5 mil), after that, I start cranking...it's always on, definately repeatable!!

I do like the Mil Mil setup, and with FFP, it allows ranging regardless of magnification. I do have a little leupy rangefinder, but it is only good for 600 yards. With this scope and the dope in the bag, I have solutions out to 1500 yards, with temps from 30F to 90F, and elevations from sea level to 3000'...but wind is the killer...especially the eddies and shearing we can encounter here is SW washington..what looks like 5 mph can be 10 mph half way across the canyon...

Anywho, a NF scope will work well for our type of shooting here in SW Washington...it's hard to get over 1500 yards without poking over the next ridge...at least it is like that where I usually shoot.
