Anyone want to go hog hunting? Cali
« on: March 24, 2013, 07:06:40 PM »
I have a trip coming up the mid April to head down to my outfitters place in northen Cali. I might have 1-2 openings depending on how the cards fall for a couple of my buddies, I should know in a week. The normal price on this hunt is 950.00 Anyone going with me will get 100.00 discount. So 850.00 we also get a special ranch that gets only hunted 1 a month and has been producing some great boars. Most of the time we do not need a hunting license or pig tag but on this ranch we do. Think it's right at 220.00 for this option. We may also hunt some on his preserve during the mid day times. I also get a extra day in camp since he is my amigo.

So the hunt is 4 days lodging included we provide are own food. Lot's of hog and if you are looking for a good/avg hog you will have 100% chance to shoot one. If you are holding out for a tusker like I do. Sometimes you see them and sometimes you don't just as it goes with hunting. Our last trip we killed 5/5 and took one avg/one large/two monster and one super freak toad monster!!! Not saying that happens everytime but the big hogs are there. We also offer exotic rams and you can make it a combo hunt if you like.

Here is the link to my add for the hunts down there with some questions answered and pictures. If this is something you may want to join me on. Send me a pm.

I am kinda getting a call list together if my buddies don't end up making it. I will keep anyone who sends me a pm in the loop, plus let people know when the seats get filled.

If you don't make it with me on the trip and still want to do a hunt feel free to contact me and we can find a time that will work for you.

Here is a picture of my hog from the last trip in november. Cheers

That is my beloved 340wby. Let me tell you what I like them dead on impact! They are nasty and like to fight if you don't put them down quick. My buddy "the owner" has got smashed 2 times in the last few months. The Russians are bad! The only animal I have ever have had that I felt like they were hunting me. I just about had to kill a big sow last year as she chased me down the hill. I got to the bottom and pulled my pistol to shoot her but it starled her and she stopped. She paced back and Fourth as I yelled every curse word I could think at her when she was about 10 yards away snapping her jaws.

The feral and crosses don't seem to be as bad most of the time. When you get ones that have a lot of Russian and are more pure blood they start to become evil :chuckle:

You know we could get it done :IBCOOL: I hate looking at that 2ND picture!!! That thing was a toad! That is the first time ever that I wanted to push a client down to shoot a animal :chuckle: It's in my nature to prefer other to do the shooting cause I love hunting. Yet when that boar broke out and I could see the top teeth alone sticking up like that I knew he was a slammer!!! I have only ever seen 1 hog better then him ever in all my days chasing hogs.He is broke off on his back tusk but think he was 3 6/8 on the good side and 3" on his broke side. Just a giant. The black one was a dandy to and the white boar that is almost pure Russian had good teeth but had broke about 1/3 off on each side.

It was a great camp and it always does not go like that but the amount of hog on his place and the chances of seeing a brute are very high. I have seen them everytime I have been down there just not been able to kill a giant like that yet. Kinda like holding out for a monster buck they are not around every bush.

I am jacked about having the huge ranch. It only gets huntied once a month and that time of year the hogs should be in the rice flats at sun up and there should be a pile of hogs around :mgun:

Do you hunt them with a bow at all?   :dunno:  If so, is it spot and stalk?  Finally, how good do these beasts taste?

I have never hunted hogs, but if it was doable with my bow, it is something I would love to try someday!

Yes we do hunt them with every weapon. We spot and stalk and stand hunt. If there is some hitting the stands we will stand hunt. I have never hunted them in the spring. I have always hunted them in the fall/winter. I don't think they will be hitting the bait as hard with all the feed around in the spring.

They are good eatting and I would think the spring hogs would be the best. I hope to find out. Now the bigger boars do get a flavor to them for sure most make hot links or just sausage. If you take a nice mid sized hog I like them better then store bought pork!
