How many days do you hunt?
« on: October 01, 2008, 05:47:45 PM »
So how many days a year do you you hunt?
 :hunter:

I usually hunt deer about 50 with my bow where I live, if I'm lucky I hunt elk 3 to 4 days. Long way from home... :bash:
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

I use to hunt or fish over 200 days a year but of late it is usually 4 or 5 days archery deer and 2-3 days archery elk.  It is usually all I need anyway.  That is why I take my time in the woods so damn seriously, no room for half assed hunting or fishing.  I just have too much crap going on right now.  Next year I will have a LOT more time for the outdoors, all of my big projects will be done.  Hopefully, next year I will get to my cousin's in Alaska for moose, caribou, dall sheep or bear.  :IBCOOL:

Hard to say...alot I would guess....

Usually hunt all over early elk archery, then modern deer (but have multiseason this year so...)...of course then ya got bear from aug 1st till ...

Guesstimating, I would say 60-90 days a year easy. That not might be the whole day...but at least going out to see what I can see...

I think my answer would be the same as most, not enough  :'(
I'll do 20 for deer, 6-8 elk, and maybe another 15 for cats, bear, coyotes, grouse

Deer:
As many as i can between balancing work/college/family/girlfriend (Actually this goes for all my hunting/fishing) Usually 9ish days total once the season is all over

Elk:
Im happy if i can scheduale in 2 or 3 days

Bear:
I usually attempt to make 4-5 trips or so during August-once september rolls around all bets are off its grouse/archery elk time and throw college in the mix and its slim pickins for free time

Grouse/Coyotes: at least 3 days a season
Ducks-Not nearly as much as i would like, 3-5 trips a season

Not as much as i would like, lately my hold up has been finding someone to go with, lol my family/girlfriend basically made me promise id never go out alone...sigh

I try to hunt 365 days but it doesnt always work :chuckle:. I hunt deer for around 9days in mod season, elk for around 12days during archery season, and I hunt as much as possible for coyotes.

For me it all depends on if I get drawn for a special permit and unfortunately I haven't had many of them. I only buy an elk tag to put in for the permits. I like my odds in MT better. I always deer/bear hunt for several days. Anywhere from 15-60+ days for me.

My record was 85 days in 03. since then my days a field have been very limited do to college. Last year i was "lucky" enough to take the year off...because i was broke and end up hunting roughly 10 days for elk, 6 days for deer and 15 days for bear. after i get done with college who knows how much time i will get to spend in the woods. :'(

About 30 fishing...
About 40 hunting deer, bear, 'yotes, and kitties.

Would've been more, but we did a lot of hiking and photography this summer in areas where there was no good fishing, and no hunting allowed.  :dunno:
I left it better than I found it...did you?

I've been fishing all my life so have always leaned toward fishing. I'm fairly new to hunting though so I'm still ramping up.

Fishing:  20-30 days
Hunting:  5-10 days

One of the smartest things I ever did was start taking a family vacation at Nootka Sound every summer. So technically I'm not taking time away from the family when I'm chasing fish for 7 straight days because the whole family is with me. Now I just have to figure out how to do that with hunting.....

I used to hunt alot........Now im married and I have to pick and choose my spots.  Id say I get out about 25 days of legitimate hunting per year.

If I would draw a good tag that could double.

I fish 3 days a year in Alaska...not much interest for in fish in Washington.

+1 Doug. The older the kids get, the less time I have seems like. get to do more outta state stuff now though. Between horse lessons, volleyball, football, and wrestling practice, my harvest season is getting widdled down pretty good. I'll be 39 when my daughter is 18, "the youngest", so I'll be able to hit the woods more frequently while being reasonably young. Wouldn't change a thing though....

hmmm never thought bout that, i'd say 4-5 for bear, 10 for elk, 12 for deer, 2-3 yote trips, then the hounds i'd say this year will be 7-8 hard to say for hounds could be alot more, add on 3-4 days for when im tagging along with other guys with differnt tags, so around 40 days of hunting. theres always a few scouting trips that go on when i can shoot stuff and what not but im not really hunting

I've spent about 10 days in the woods this year hunting archery elk in Idaho.  Heading to Alberta this weekend for Moose for 10 days.  Then will return and hunt deer rifle in Idaho probably between 5-10 days. in mid to late November.  Will get over to Montana in early November to help Mom and Dad get their elk.  They don't need help with the finding or the killing, just getting it back to the truck. :chuckle:  Hopefully will get out for some birds in their sometime as well.  Probably end up with a total of 35-40 days this year I guess.  Thats probably about average for me the last 7-10 years.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

About thirty days shed hunting, twenty days deer hunting, ten days elk hunting, ten days bird hunting, twenty days fishing. So between 80 and 100 days in the field. That will probably change with the first child on the way come January.

Easily 60+ if you include big game, small game, predators, and mushrooms.
