TC Contender distance shooting?
« on: March 26, 2013, 09:52:58 AM »
Might seem strange, but curious if anyone shoots over 100yds with these things?  Researching a good caliber for yotes and deer that will go more than 100yds.

I know I must get a .223 barrel, just because its cheap to shoot. I have a 45-70 barrel thats FUN, but its slow and doesnt go far...

I have the 14" .223 barrel on mine and I have no problem shooting out to 200+ yds.  The .30-30 would be a good choice but I would go to a 12" or 14" barrel on that caliber also.  My buddy has it in10" and that's a real flame thrower.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

My dad had a super 14 Contender in 7mmTCU that he would shoot 200 yards. He's kind of conservative meaning I'd think it'd be good to go to 300 anyway.
Carpsniper's got one in .223 I think if I remember correctly.

Great pistol for 100+, just add a bipod.

I liked to reload for the 7x30 Waters.  It can be a real burner when handloaded for that cartridge and able to take just about anything you want.

Yeah I have one in 223. Its my tractor gun most of the time. They are great shooting guns. I have put a lot of yotes in the dirt with it. I shoot it to 150 but I am a handgun nut and spend a ton of time hunting and shooting with handguns. The point is the guns a lot of the time will out shoot what a person can shoot. It takes a lot of practice to shoot 100 and plus with a handgun.

My advice is get a longer barreled tc g2 or encore. If you get a old tc choices are limited.  There is a lot of great picks for the g2 or encore pistol. Recoil is another thing. I shoot a 7mm-08 handgun a lot. Its more then most shooters will want to shoot or can shoot well. I would maybe look to the 6.8 I think it would make a great deer gun at 100y and recoil won't be bad.

I had the Super in 30-30.  Shot 130 Hornady hand loads and mounted a 2-7 Burris on it.  Easy 150 yote gun.  Friend of mine did a Boom/Flop on a two point blacktail with it at 130.  I shot a 200# black bear at 10 yards experiencing the same results.  It is LOUD  :yike:

I used to own one.  They are almost as accurate as a rifle and only a little more cumbersome.

I have a TC Super 14 in 30-30. I handload the Speer single shot pistol bullet. You can really get the 30-30 moving. And when loaded properly isnt a flame thrower. MUCH LESS cumbersome than a rifle.

I have a 7 tcu and its a great gun out to 175 yards for hunting.  Used it on silhouettes. Shoot the 300 meter ram with it. Very accurate.
If we were supposed to be vegetarian God would have made broccoli more fun to shoot!
"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

I have a 14" .270 encore , it is alot of fun to shoot (recoil is not as bad as you would think) 200 + yards. It does throw a good flame though.
