How hard are some of those rounds to get? 7x30, 35 rem, odd stuff Ive never heard of before the contender.. And I do reload.

The .35 Remington is still a very popular chambering back east.  These days it’s probably easier to find .35 rem ammo and components than it is to find .223 or .308

Midway has bullets in stock now:

Really good stuff here.

http://www.bellmtcs.com/store/index.php?cid=153

I've done 1, 2, 3 and 7(on my .300win mag barrel) with great results.
The same stuff applies for pistols too in most cases.

Many of the items you need for reloading or simply buying box ammo for the 7-30.....

It isn't hard (at least didn't used to be) to find dies/brass for the 7x30 Waters, you probably don't need much brass.  It is a great cartridge in the Contender.

You have to be careful with the encore contender rifles because it is technically illegal use them as a pistol.

If this was directed as me, yes you are correct.  I have enough problems without adding possession of a SBR added to them!!  They certainly do make it easy to break some rules though.
Wasn't directed at anyone specific. I have 2 Encore rifles and really want a pistol. Truth be told, nothing would probably ever happen, but I won't do it anyway. Should have picked up 1 that started life as a pistol, then I could do it either way. Oh well, live and learn.
Mine have all been registered as pistols.  And I thought that all of them had to be.

44flattop top has killed a lot of deer, and a few elk with a bunch of different calibers in the old 1st generation contenders.  He killed a buck in 1992 in ID with a 12" 358jdj that won the Hand Gun Hunter International big buck contest.  And I believe he shot the buck at around 250yds.

To legally be a pistol, it has to have started life as a pistol at the factory.

Good read here.

Like others on here, I've played with my share of Contenders. I've shot all of them out to at least 200 yards. You'll be very happy with the Encore if it fits your hand. I tried it for a while, buy I just couldn't get a good grip on the gun.

My favorite factory round in the Contender is the 7x30. Best wild cat was the 6.5 JDJ. That's for small game and predators. For serious hunting the 375 JDJ is pretty hard to beat!
