In  my opinion if I'm going to use a coyote howl I will use an actual howler.  The only reason is if I'm using a howler its to get distance across canyons for example howling out of woodpecker call doesn't get the volume I like.  But if you want to use that call blow it  just just like a howler.

Coyote howl works the best but only use it when their in the roost.

I like to let them sound off on the roost without using any kind of locator, especially on birds that have been pressured.  Using a howler too close to a roost before daylight can be a bad idea.

if your hunting the republic area the birds are used to crow calls they dont like to answer them most of the time, but i did fiind that a peacock call works well and its very loud, i have had birds answer the peacock call all hours of the day then i tried the crow call and nothing
If its brown its down

I like the howler if going coyote. A crow call works well and is easy to use.

I use mine whenever I am trying to locate a tom. Morning evening or even mid day I have gotten them to gobble with it. Basically where I generally hunt its more of a run and gun style of hunt, meaning I will be mobile calling into draws/areas where I think a bird might be. If I can get one to respond I will move into position to try and call him in.
