Baby's first deer meat?
« on: March 27, 2013, 10:39:49 PM »
With the boy starting to eat real  food (instead of just formula) my wife and I were wondering when you started feeding your kid deer meat and how you prepared it? thanks.

My boy is 18 months old.  He has had elk, deer and moose. If its steak, I just cut into super tiny pieces so he can chew it. If its burger, its game on. He just chows down.

started giving my nephew bear pepperoni when he was three, he loves it. took so long to get him game meat because of my inability to kill something. hes 7 now and if you tell him something is deer, elk or bear hes all over it

I started giving the boy the father-in-law's deer sausage before 11 months if I remember right.  He gobbles it up.  The wife is from AK and grew up on deer, salmon, halibut, crab, bear, moose, sheep, etc.  Beef was quite a new thing for her, as I recall her telling it, since they never needed to buy it.

My kids (5 & 7) don't like beef steak much. If it's not deer or elk, they don't wanna eat it. I can't remember exactly how old they were when they started eating meat, but it was as soon as they could eat solid foods. We just cut it up into tiny pieces. My wife would often use scissors for that. It's much quicker than using a knife.
