Any fellow Hunt-WA'ers going out with Capt. Steve on the Hula Girl on Saturday?

I have gone out with him on tagging trips before. They really work hard to get fish.

Nah, but if you see two kayaks fishing the Jetty on your way out or in, it might be my wife and I.

I have a 16ft duck boat with 50hp motor. I was thinking of fishing the jetty for ling's and sea bass. Is my boat ok for that? I was looking on Google earth and i can see rock jetty's east and west of westport ramp is that open for fishing?

Steve and Jason get it done I have gone out with them a few times and never been disappointed. I grew up with Jasons wife so it made it wasy to find the best boat to fish on!

I have no idea of the seaworthiness of a craft like that.  That Jetty is no place to screw around.  You can get big rolling waves coming through, strong rips at certain points in the tides, and giant standing waves at the bar.  It can get really dangerous quickly.  I know this might sound crazy, but a kayak is safer than most boats up to 18-20 feet. Mainly because it can get completely covered by a wave, get flipped over, etc, and keep on going.

Well, it was a standard Hula Girl bottomfishing trip - lots of fast fishing.  Limits on ling and rockfish for everybody.  Weather was perfect, whales were everywhere.  Even had three of them within 100 feet of our boat on the way in.  One kid caught a 25-30# ling, but no derby ticket...  someone also caught a 20#-class king.  Never know what you're gonna get out there.

Ha!  Don't have them uploaded yet.  Not a lot of pics, it was just the annual spring meat run for us.  Believe me, if it was me that nabbed that big ling, there would have been a few pics up here already.  Probably even a few of you would have gotten them while I was still on the boat!

I guess I could post that pic of my biggun I got a few years ago again, if it would soothe the masses as much as it strokes my ego...  :chuckle:

I'm always up for big Ling pics.  I love those fish.  Got my daughter on her first one 2 weekends ago at the westport jetty.  I'm hoping to catch a 40 incher this year and make the skull and jaws into some neat wall art.

This was a couple years ago.  I kept the head and tried to do a skull mount on that myself, but it ended up being a stinky, rubbery mess that looked bad.  If I get another 30#+ fish I'll have a taxi do it for me.
