Denied Firearm Transfer?

Okay... So a couple weeks ago I went in and filled out all the paperwork on purchasing a handgun at Cabela's, been waiting for a call back. I just got a call from them and apparently they denied my paperwork and transfer of the gun, they released my gun, and has no further information for me...

That's got to be the funniest/crappiest thing that's happened to me in a while. I'm sorta speechless at the moment... I want to know if anyone has had this happen, and if so, did you go through the appeals process? How?

I'm seriously really confused right now as to WHY. I hold a secret security clearance for my job for crying out loud, that's a way more in depth background check than the measly firearm purchase questionnaire -pouts- .. For the life of me I absolutely cannot think of anything that would cause a denial.

What do you mean they released it? They denied you but gave you the ok to get it?

Go get yourself a gun permit and try again. If you are issued the permit then there should be no justified reason to be denied the gun.

You should apply for your concealed weapons permit, then you wont have to wait to purchase handguns (unless the laws have changed).

The store only gets a denial and no information why.

Until you get the issue fixed through NICs you probably will get denied for a CPL also.

If your address matches the address of a felon that can trip the red light. 
Disclaimer: not trying to  I have seen that happen to someone else I know. He was told that when called and asked why.

Bad wording, released the gun back for sale on their shelves. I was trying to purchase a specific gun that was hard to find.

I applied for that two days after the gun.. now I'm worried that's going to be denied as well :-/

Yeah that's what he told me, he JUST called me back and said it was Pierce County who denied it but they aren't privy to any other information.

Request the Reason for Your Denial
To find out why your firearms transfer was denied, you will have to send a written request to:
Federal Bureau of Investigation
NICS Section
Appeal Services Team, Module A-1
Post Office Box 4278
Clarksburg WV 26302-9922

You must include your complete mailing address and your NICS Transaction Number (NTN), which your firearms dealer will give you when he informs you of your denial.
The appeal services team will respond within five business days after receiving your written request, letting you know the reason that your firearms purchase was denied.


Include Your Fingerprints
When you request the reason for your denial, you may want to go ahead a include a professionally-rolled set of your fingerprints with your initial correspondence with the NICS. If it turns out that the reason for your denial is a case of mistaken identity, the agency will already have your fingerprints on hand.
Although the NICS has a customer service telephone number (1-877-444-6427), any inquiry concerning your appeal should be made in writing. Due to the Privacy Act of 1974, specific information about your appeal cannot be given to you over the telephone.

Good info, thank you. He did say it was Pierce County and NOT a federal denial and he almost sounded puzzled about it. Would this still be the appropriate way to go? One more question for ya, two days after I did the paperwork for the firearm I went to Pierce County and applied for my CPL with finger prints etc. Should I wait to see the results of that, and then proceed to write in?

He said it actually COULD BE because I hold a security clearance but he wouldn't tell me anymore, that confused me, does anyone know the reasoning of that?

I'd wait until you get the permit results. If you don't get it then there is a bigger issue. If you do get it then I would go down and buy it over the counter.
