What kind of gloves does everyone bring hunting the backcountry?

I have poor circulation so if anything's cold it's usually my hands first.  I usually have a pair of mechanic's style gloves with me for camp chores etc.  I'd like something waterproof but also tough.  Doesn't have to be super warm, just a little something.  I'm thinking about maybe some liners under a tougher glove of some sort.

I wear mil surplus wool liners if it's really cold.  Otherwise, I just wear some lightweight poly gloves.

My favorite is the mil surp Nomex flight gloves.  Wore them all the time in the Army and still had enough dexterity to feel my trigger finger.  I'm talking about the flight gloves, not the nomex gloves with the reimforced knuckles.

My hands are usually in my pockets with lightweight gloves even in cold weather.  I find that while backpacking and at my camp, I'm either sleeping or working so your mechanic gloves are probably the ticket   

Treestand hunting is different 

I wear the warmest glove/mitten combo I can when it's cold and I'm stuck up a tree.

I've used ScentLok's lightweight gloves for years, not for the carbon, but because they are great at blocking wind and have great dexterity.  Those are wearing out so I have a pair of Sitka's Traverse gloves that do the same:  block wind and retain dexterity. Happy with both. 

Neither fit your criteria of waterproof, but they both shed water very well.  Neither are tough, as in camp chores, but they do OK for hunting durability.  I don't think I could get enough dexterity from gloves I considered tough enough for doing everything. I have mechanics gloves that I use for other purposes, but I've never hunted with them.

That's kind of my dilema...  Hands get cold and wet during an extended glassing session, but there doesn't seem to be a glove that can do it all.  Just looking for a better way without adding unnecessary weight to the pack.  Might just suck it up and get some of those removable finger mittens or gloves in addition to the work gloves I take.  Most of the time on the go I don't have much of a problem...

I usually wear the thicker knit gloves that are dipped in rubber. I hunt ducks more than anything, and hate bulky "waterproof" gloves. A gore tex lining is great and all but when you've got 3 layers of soaking wet glove then the liner, it almost not worth the hassle. They get heavy and don't stay on worth a damn.  They usually have terrible grip as well. The knit ones are great as long as I don't submerge my hands, but if I'm going to pick up decoys I throw on some neoprenes.

I have tried the REI glove liner under my hunting gloves and its not bad and very lightweight. But I now I bring a smartwool glove liner in for under my hunting gloves when its really cold in the mornings. Its a true statement wool will keep you warm even if they get wet. you defintly dont want cold shivering arms trying to glass with binos much less trying to steady for a shot.

I have scent lock light gloves with smartwool liners, and a pair of manzella insulated water resistant gloves in my pack.
