It takes a different breed to pack out an unknown terd, freeze it and save it till spring  :chuckle:

yeah my dad couldn't resist lol it was pretty funny at camp that night...

but i should also say that it was "log style" and not upright and splatted

this was one turd, all completely together, the pic only shows 1/3 of the real length

Would grizz have a diet consisting of that much grass?  I could see a bunch of grass in the springtime, but fall?   :dunno:  Maybe BF is a good option. :chuckle:

definitely not any of the following:
Not Moose - Moose beans look like elk beans except bigger.
Not Elk
Not deer
Not coyote
not cougar
not bobcat
not rabbit

Possibles, but long shots: grizzly bear or large black bear or sasquatch?
I would think that it would have to be a grizzly bear or a large black bear that just blew the ultimate cork of all time.

Remember earlier in the thread H20 thought it might be one of his end results.  Need to add him as one of the possibles...

I'm gonna guess bear, not knowing what area/habitat/terrain its hard to tell. Might try giving it the taste test

Now that I look closer at it, it definitely has a cow terd look to it...
[/quote]  Yes packing it out is a little odd, heres one i found but didn't bring home. :chuckle:  It's a herseys kiss turd.

I agree it could be bear. But I don't think the fact that it's in a solid clump excludes it from being moose. Elk sometimes have solid turds like that. It's just too big for an elk, or at least seems to be.

Let me ask you this: are your turds always the same shape and size, or does it depend on the food you've been eating at the time?

Also, I believe a grizzly bear would have at least some hair in it.

ive nev seen elk turds that were all in one piece tho..clumped yes but they break from falling to the ground..esp something of this size and length..can you imagine something 3 beers long staying in one piece falling the 5-6 feet from a moose butt and then landing perfectly flat ?? and then not be flatend on one side ?? let alone splattered ??

you could be right but that was why is discounted moose/elk/deer

Could there have been a bunch of snow on the ground when the animal took a dump, thus helping keep it from breaking apart, then the snow melted when you found it? :dunno:

While I don't think that particular turd is from a bear,  I'll let you know that I watched a nice sized black bear eat grass for about 3 hours one day, Mid August 2012.  During mid September I've seen bears in the blue berry fields eat berries then grass, berries, then grass all day long.

I have seen Moose & Elk beans that appear to be from a sick animal, but 99% of the time even those have beans at the early part or late part, so to speak before or after the pie that is about to happen.

Deer, elk, moose beans are extremely consistent as compared to us humans as their diet is much more consistent, but I will defer to those folks that are much more knowledgeable about feces than I am.
