Senate Bill 5889 would increase snowmobile registration fees and was introduced March 29th. The bill has bipartisan support.

Currently the fee (initial and renewal) is $30. The fee would increase to $40 until July 1, 2014. Effective July 1, 2014 the fee would increase to $50.

House Bill 2002 increases the registration fees but does not impact the Sno-Park pass

What a bunch of crap, but I'm not surprised. This state is a bunch of money grabbing a holes. The riding in greenwater sucks and the road is a death trap most of the time to get to the snow park. They groom once a week and the hills are too overgrown with trees now. The state is broke yet they have sheriffs on snowmobiles on sundays checking for 30 dollar tabs? Really. And they didn't even check us guys that were at the cabin. This state can kiss my back side, I've never been checked for tabs so I think I'll take the chance now.

That's gonna pinch a little for those families of 4 or 5 sleds, got two myself and will have 3 soon.

WA registration fees are optional for me, I've been doing it just because, but the bulk of my riding is in Canada.
I may just ride 100% in Canada and private property with the kids.

They groom once a week

This is what I'm wondering about. Grooming has to be expensive. Who pays for it?

It reads as a parking permit for snow parks. :dunno:

Yeah! Snow park fees pay for grooming those trails. Probably should have been $100 for the reg fee. Pay your way.

This is what I'm thinking too, but I don't really know who pays for what, that's why I was asking.

My oldest son just snow checked a 14pro and we have always had 2 spare sleds for friends or backup, But I can see that changing! I just can't see giving this state more $ for everything I do while many, many that use the wilderness of washington pay little to nothing :twocents:

A percentage of the gas tax money is supposed to go to the grooming programs, as well as registration funds, I believe there were some state park funds, since the program is managed by the state parks, and additionally there are clubs and organizations that pay for additional grooming.  The state is continually going after the gas tax money, I haven't followed it much the last few years and it may be gone, hence the increase in registration.

KF, if you read in the fine print you are legally required to register your snowmobile even if you only ride it on private property! Go figure!

You are confused. The bill does two things:
1- Does the two increases for the registration

2- Right now if you are issued a snowmobile registration you are also given a Sno-Park pass. This changes and the bill says you can be charged a fee for the Sno-Park pass.

Really, my hard earned gas tax money goes to subsidize friggin snowmobile recreation for the rich. Pay $1000 for the fee and get the hell outta my back pocket!
