Carry Permit Remider....don't forget to renew
« on: April 03, 2013, 01:01:55 PM »
My brother in law applied for his permit today. Reminded me to check mine....expired in Feb! Called and got lucky.....90 day grace period for renewal. So, check your permits and make sure you don't have to reapply.

You have to go to who issued it to you, or if you moved what ever your local police is. Typically if you live in the city limits it is your local PD, if in the county, the county Sheriff.

In Tacoma you go to the Courthouse.
In Port Orchard I go to the Sheffifs office.
Not sure in Spanaway.

Carry Permit Remider....don't forget to renew
« Reply #14 on: April 03, 2013, 03:01:47 PM »
Last fall my buddy said that he needed to get his laminated. I whipped mine out to show him mine. At that time I realized that it expired 100 days before. So I had to go through the whole process over. Because of the increase in volume of applicants I went two times and got denied a chance due to too many people. The third time I showed up early. After 4 hours of waiting to do a 5 minute fingerprint I was done. Wish they would send a reminder as a renewal is a snap. Hope to never forget again.

Neat website and all, but the incorporated city of Vancouver sends people to the sheriff (as a resident of Vancouver, my permit was issued by Clark county sheriffs office).

So just depends in locale.

:yeah: I live in unincorporated Snohomish County but can go to the Granite Falls PD to apply and renew, it's all up to your local sheriff.

I have held a CWP in the past but i dont currently.

(Rant) I find it stupid that you have to go to your local police station or sheriffs office to get finger printed and do your paperwork. I moved from one county to the next and when i walked into my old PD to renew they said sorry you have to go to where you live... which is a lot busier place and not very convenient to for me. So I said isnt this a state issued permit and doesnt it use the same resources for background checks etc... yes. Then why should I have to go to a specific LEO and not anyone LEO that I want? Do I have to go to my local gun shop to buy a firearm? just sayin

anyway, its good to get in before your up so you dont have to pay extra or get re-finger printed etc.
People get offended at nothing at all. So, speak your mind and be unapologetic.

forgot a few years ago to renew.  mine had expired in feb just like H20 hunter. no grace period where I live. had to re-apply and go through the whole fingerprint/screening process.

So I too spaced renewing mine this year.  Mine xpired in August, and I remembered last month.  Thankfully I was still within the time line to renew vs reapply.

One question though, would my expired permit still be honored inside that grace period after expiration?  :dunno:  I wonder?  Expired means expired, but my new permit is back dated to August which points again to a grace period on honoring it.  I did continue to carry but kept my expired permit on me as well as the receipt for my re-up.     :dunno:  I figured I would be at the discretion of the a LEO if something were to arise, but then is see my back dated permit and am now thinking I was covered???  :dunno:
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

That's the tough part of a carry permit.  They don't expire on your birthday like your driver's license does, so you have to keep track of it.  I renewed mine a while back, and it's $32 to renew.  That's about half what an original application costs!

I set my outlook reminder for a few weeks before, but then I happened to not check my email for like a month and missed the reminder, so I ended up renewing late and having to pay extra. :bdid: I didn't realize you can renew early though, so once I get my new permit I am going to set my reminder like 120 days in advance of my expiration date, an hopefully will not have to pay more next time.

:chuckle: Yeah, when I renewed mine, I filled out the form, answering all the questions, and as I handed the form to the lady at the window I said: "I never realized I led such a dull life!" She laughed and said "That's not necessarily a bad thing!"
