west side dog spots
« on: October 01, 2008, 02:24:57 PM »
I am in skagit county.  I know that I have not done my homework and knocked on enough doors.  but my question is where do you hunt and how good is the action?

I'm also in Skagit, and although I have yet to check it out myself, I've been told out near Concrete is the place to go in our neck of the woods.

There are thousands upon thousands of acres of state/DNR/nat'l forest land to hunt...and yes, much of it falls in and around skagit co. On top of that, there are thousands more acres of private timber company that allows hunting on their property.

I prefer hunting 'yotes on farmland, though...which requires permission from the landowner. I've almost hit a couple on HWY9 just south of Sedro.
Otherwise, there are plenty of dogs out there in the woods...and plenty of 'em.

You're in the middle of a lot of good hunting ground. You shouldn't need to travel far, especially outside the county lines, to get on some dogs, cats, bear, or deer.

That's all the info I can give ya, though...now do your homework.  ;)
I left it better than I found it...did you?
I hunt animals because veggies are too easy to stalk.

West side has less grass fields so they will seek through thick brush first so choose wisely.  Any one know if tree farms are good cause there are all over on the west

If you can find a tree farm not surrounded by houses...ya it aint bad (cause they normally have woods around as well). I grew up next door to a tree farm...plenty of yotes...even better if they keep it mowed down so you can see em coming...

Just don't forget that this unit is special permit only for Elk...and the odds are slim (like 3 tags a year for archery elk).

Good luck on the dogs...and don't be suprised if you call in a bobcat or two.
They're out here.  ;)
