Reloading shotgun
« on: April 04, 2013, 10:19:39 AM »
Years ago, you were able to buy shotgun reloading dies for a standard "rockchucker" type press.
Are these still available?

Yes they are , from RCBS and CH-4D.  I believe you need too have the removeable bushing in the top of your press to convert it from 7/8 x14 to 1 1/4 same as for the 50BMG dies.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

What is Ch-4D?

Since we are required to use steel for upland hunting, I'd like to try loading up some duplex loads of 5/8 to 3/4 oz #3 and 5/8 oz #7 steel shot.
My thought is to get enough density for quail and enough penetration for pheasants.
I'm seeing a lot of quail hit the ground running with a pellet or two in 'em.
Would you put the 7's on top or bottom of the column?
Thoughts?

personally id mix the shot. the 7s will fill in the spaces between the 3s and you would get a nice dense pattern with the 3s spread throughout for penetration. just my  :twocents:

CH4D is an old reloading company that has one of the largest selection reloading dies in the business and some of the very best Presses, in fact just about everything they build is good.  They are the least expensive place to get custom dies made.  There aren't many wildcats that aren't on their die list.  Word of mouth among experienced reloaders keeps them more than busy so they don't advertise.  I've been buying from them since the 1970's
