Ever Had a Hen Fan out And Strut
« on: April 05, 2013, 09:29:53 AM »
This hen kept herself between the gobbler and all the other hens. Kinds like saying " Stay away form my man"

Maybe she was the fat chick of the group saying "stay away from my girls". What a cloaca block!  :chuckle:

I have two hen turkeys at home (domestic) and one of the hens is always strutting around like a tom.

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Two of the twelve hens this morning were in strut at times,  just another way for them to show dominance.

I've never seen that!

Now I wish you would have asked the question before you posted the pictures to see if any real loud mouths would tell you you are crazy.  :chuckle:

Cool pic, thx for sharing.

I have even heard them gobble! Not a big booming gobble but still a gobble.

You may have seen this video before, but it is one of the COOLEST pieces of footage I've ever seen. A whole bunch of Goulds hens showing dominance around a couple DSD decoys. Check out the hen at around 3 minutes in. Just really, really cool.... Also, some great sounds to work on. Practice your mouth calls until you sound like these girls.

I have seen a couple of hens go into a semi strut posture. Never seen one full strut like that bird :yike: pretty cool.
