Just recieved my Tomahawk in the mail today from Cold Steel..
Pipe Hawk/Frontier Hawk. or as I call it, a hatchet.
Seems pretty solid for the price. I have a lot of work to do to it yet, Its pretty balanced as far as weight goes and has a nice shape and feel. Looks cheesy with the glossy metal black paint though.
Its Precision forged from 5150 carbon steel, with a 22" Handle and a Hammer Backside. (Which I absolutely love)
- Im going to wind up removing the set screw and throwing that away.
- Shaving down the handle a tad for a snug fit at the head.
- Sanding down the handle to remove the factory clear coat.
- Adding a nice dark wood varnish to help treat the wood a little better.
- Stripping the black paint off then adding some Gun-blue to remove any shine and give it an original look.
- Gonna do some edge work and try to get it nice and sharp.
Any Ideas on products as far as doing this work listed would be nice. I know how to do it all, Just not sure what products work better over others.. Ill keep everyone posted as It will be a fun little project.
Here are some before photos.
