Turkeydancer...we created a Turkey Whacker.
« on: April 08, 2013, 01:51:48 PM »

Callie got it done Sunday morning. A bird we tussled with on Saturday along with his hens finally was bested by her yesterday. Say we found him around noon. But wouldn't budge after a couple hours. With one last move we seem to get him to break only to have an Adult come marching into where we last heard the tom. Evidently this poacher wanted a jump on the season. Well he must of been a blessing in disguise. He separated the hens from the Tom and yesterday after a couple crowcalls he hammered back from the roost. As we moved closer he sounded off again from the ground may he 100yds out. We had enough time to set up and give out a couple clucks and purrs....nothing. So I fire a soft series of where are you yelps and clucks....HAMMERED! I see just a flicker of movement and mention Callie "saftey off!" Then Vallie says "There he is" ...strutting right out in front of her. I let her know shoot when your ready...BOOM....turkey keeps walking then starts panicking. As Callie leys her gun down I tell her to pump it again and commence yelping. He stops turns around and walks right back to the same spot...BOOM... I don't remeber getting up but I did land on the turkey I think before he actually hit the ground;). 20# 8" beard 5/8 spurs. Proof that even in the snow they still act like spring turkeys. One proud Poppa for the way She stayed calm and collected through it all. One of us HAD too.

Hey Trav & Callie ... Mrs "Dancer" loved the e-mailed pictures and is busting her buttons for Callie Turkey Whacker too !!!

Good luck in T-ville this next week. Hoping to do a little Phantom search and destroy also ... don't let the toad eat your truck though.
