12 year old Thomas kills his first turkey
« on: April 08, 2013, 04:01:34 PM »
What a weekend. I called in this nice tom for 12 year old Thomas who killed his first turkey on Sunday at 6:45am. Neither his Dad (in the pic with him) or Thomas had ever hunted turkeys until this weekend.  Needless to say, they were so thrilled and so was I.  I called in this bird from about 300 yards away. He came in with two hens and was spitting-n-drumming the whole way and gobbling up a storm too.  He came right into my Jake and hen decoy and Thomas got his first bird.  That was the first time for me to call in a bird for someone.  I don't know who was more excited, me or them?  Anywise, awful thankful the good Lord let us have one of his birds.  I know Thomas and his Dad will remember this hunt for a lifetime.

That's awesome! It's probably even better than killing one yourself.
Thanks for sharing.

Just a side note...I used a box call made by renown Northwest Call Maker, Howard House. It's a call he gave me about 10 years ago when I was President of the Lake Washington Chapter of the NWTF. I have always carried his call with me but never really used it until this hunt.  I was absolutely blown away at how well it worked.  I had birds firing off from a long ways away.  It was so cool.  Howard, thank you!
