Archery or modern...
« on: April 08, 2013, 04:08:02 PM »
What to do? Last year was my first year hunting deer archery. It was a blast!!
Have yet to harvest an elk with my rifle, spike only unit... Just have not had the opportunity to fill my tag. Been in the elk each year just nothing to shoot at.
If I were to hunt archery, I would be able to hit the rut. And have a choice of cow or spike. What are your thoughts?

Archery season gives you much more opportunity of being successful. Especially when the only legal elk are spike bulls during rifle season. If you are confident with your bow out to 40 yards or so, I would definitely go that route.

Archery and Cows on the Eastside for sure! I see maybe 1 spike for every 90 Cow's I see. And the Rut has nothing to do with any of this really. Archery Cow hunting is the shiznit!

Archery if those are your two picks. Muzzleloader wouldn't be a bad pick if you could draw a cow tag.

I have killed way more elk w/archery than Rifle.

All archery have been bulls, only 1 bull w/rifle.

I switched to archery a few years ago and will never go back to rifle. It is just a different experience being out there carrying the stick and string.
