I've got 15 points myself and will be putting in for Dayton archery. A friend of mine drew last year and I took a week off just to help him. Learned a ton of country and were successful. In the past I have only put in for Dayton with no 2nd choice, but am seriously considering a 2nd choice this year due to permit increases in Dayton. I share openly because I have gotten a lot of help from others on the forum and have no problem giving back. If you decide to go that route send me a pm and I will be glad to give you some avenues of travel.

I would apply for the desert unit since the wolves and bigfoot have chased all the elk out of the blues

No need to apply for Desert. There are so many elk in there that its open for ANY ELK during the general season.

Which weapon choice are you planning on applying for?

Do you have the time to go over and scout areas if you draw? It's 6 hours drive time to the Blues.

i will be rifle hunting and yes i will make time to scout i live to elk hunt and have been waiting a long time to draw a good bull tag

Don't count on drawing, I have 18 points this year and I thought I would draw for the past 8 years, no poacher points- just lots of waiting. One important question is, what quality of bull are you really looking for? Have you killed big bulls in the past or looking for your first? If you will be happy with a 300+ bull, I'd say go for one of the 300 units, like Lt Naches. You would have a lot of help from RTSPRING if you draw that tag, the blues are very difficult to draw and it's not the only area with big bulls. There are quite a few good bull tags out there, the exceptional one's are in the rut. If you have never been to the blue's, you will find it's like nothing else in our state. The best thing about having that multi elk tag is if you don't draw, you get to hunt the westside for a big bull and your not stuck hunting spikes on the east.

I don't remember the unit name or number but whichever unit is immediately south of Dixie off hwy 12.  BIG bulls in there, if it hasn't turned into another subdivision.

after 16 years i am not counting on drawing but with the multi season permit im hoping i have killed 7 branched bulls in wasgington the biggest being a small 6pt dont know if i could pass up a 300 class bull but like to think i could hold for a 350 class bull so i am looking for my first big washington bull

I have hunted 6 years in Washington and shot 3 elk all antlerless. Sounds like you are doing ok on bulls

Like said there is some great hunts in the blues. Some of the central units like cow/rim/bethel/goose etc produce some  great bulls and a guy can have a legit shot a trophy bull. I think most of the east side units a guy could down a nice bull if you can pass some of the smaller ones and spend enough time at it. I have seen some beautiful bulls come out of the Dayton unit and think that would be a fine choice.

If I had the money and in your shoe's, I would put in for the blues as my first choice and I would call mntcook for a guieded hunt. My second choice would be the Lt Naches and I would get a hold of RTsping. Another option out of many, you could try to get the rut rifle hunt in the naches as your first choice and the Oct. 1st rifle hunt as your second, those two would be incredible hunts. Congrats on killing bulls in the past and be sure to let us know if you draw something, lot of good guys on here to help.

I second the Little Naches Rut tag. Aka Peaches ridge. This is an absolutely great hunt to draw a tag. You do the drawing and get the tag, and I will help any way I can.

 Be careful putting in for "the blues". The several different units vary greatly and some have serious land access issues while others have terrain that requires stock. I would not put in for any of the units without spending some time in them before hand.

If you have a muzzle loader and have hunted with a muzzle loader before (deer or elk). I would apply for a muzzy tag.  With 16 points drawing a muzzy tag is almost a slam dunk.  In WA the hardest part of killing a trophy bull is drawing the tag.  Even if you have never hunted muzzle loader before its not a hard transition from rifle to muzzle loader.  Just make sure you practise a lot.  You don't even have to put much thought into it.  There's plenty of people like sabotloader who can tell you which bullets and powder combo will work well and which gun to get. 

Next thing to do is buy elk nuts calling CDs and listen to them over and over and over and practise practise practise.  You will pretty much gain 10yrs of experience in one summer.
