Found out i got drawn for both multi season tags. Does anyone know if i want to put in for different weapons and both sides of the state, do i hafta buy the tags before the drawings in may.  Can you put in and if you dont draw something magical, not purchase the multi season.  Just trying to figure out if this is going to pinch some of my spring bear fundage. Thanks in advance.

:chuckle: Nope you have to buy it before you apply for the different hunts. Until you buy it you can only put in for what your tag is. Once you buy your permits then you can apply for all the special hunts on both sides.

Yes it is going to put a pinch on your spring bear funds. Close to a $400 pinch.

Gotta be honest here, as much as i want a muley buck, i might just buy the elk and scratch the deer.  More biscuts on an elk.  The close to 100% draw rate for deer, makes it easy to skip this year. Maybe i can get some o.t. Gotta set some $ aside for that future chocalate rug.  Thanks for the info guys.

You have until August 31 to make up your mind. You can always buy it later this summer.

I drew both as well.  So, for elk do you have to put in for East or West or can you hunt both.  Archery east, Muzzy west, etc.???
Cut em!

That's a good decision, I think- not buying the multi season deer. I'd wait and spend the money on it next year when chances are you won't draw the elk permit again. But Jackelope brought up a good point. You have until the end of August to buy it, so just decide then if you want to spend the money and devote the time to both deer and elk.

I'm also somewhat undecided on which deer tag to buy. I will probably buy muzzleloader, and only apply for points for the special deer permits. That way not only will I have the option of buying the multi season deer tag at the end of August, I will also have the option of trading my muzzleloader tag for an archery tag. I may want to do this if I end up getting pictures of a good buck on my trail cameras, and think I can kill it in the first couple days of the early archery season. It's nice keeping all the options open, that's why I applied for the multi season deer tag even though I'm 99% sure I won't buy it.

As for applying for special elk hunts, just remember you still only get two choices on your quality application. But at least you can apply for east side hunts if that's what you want to do, and still hunt the west side for bulls if you don't draw. If you really want a chance of drawing an east side bull permit, you should apply for the archery permits. Modern and muzzleloader are next to impossible to draw.

Ive got 4drawn elk points this year. Been studying the permits like a fiend even on the long shot i pull one.  Might put in for the hight mumber permits in the central part of the state.  Goose prarie, observatory.  At least ill gain a point. If i make it to 6 ill start puttin in strictly for the masher bull units.  Right now i got rugsteaks on the brain. :IBCOOL:

Maybe some body can refresh my memory is it 2 options for quality and 3 for non quality units.  I might be developing a gambling problem.

If you want to apply for special permits it would be helpful to have the multi season permit because it allows you more options. That is a big part of the appeal IMO.

I wont buy my deer multi tag till after the special permit results, if I get drawn then I'd just saved myself 180+ dollars. I'm not talking elk, just deer, I'm only putting in for rifle deer permits so it doesn't matter. The multi elk is worth buying right away, like the other just said, it gets you a crap load of options to chose your two choices from.

So just to clarify, if you drew the multi season tag and wanted to apply for permits in more than one weapon category you would have to buy the multi permit first??

You bet, but I bet the wdfw will catch on to this soon and require us to buy the permit before the special permit deadline!!

i want to do the same thing so I called fish and wildlife and they told me that even though I only plan on putting in for rifle special tag I would HAVE to buy the multi season tag first. So if you buy a rifle deer tag to put in for tags, that's the tag you are stuck with and won't be able to buy the multi season after the draw. This is what they told me and I don't like it at all.

That may be correct, but you can't always believe what they say 100%.

I do know what is possible, and that is what I am planning on doing this year. I am buying a muzzleloader deer tag and only applying for points in the deer categories. If you only apply for points, you can exchange your tag anytime before the season starts, for a different tag.

I may decide to archery hunt if I'm seeing any decent bucks at the end of August. So I will go in and exchange my muzzleloader tag for an archery tag. Or, if I'm feeling rich at the time (not likely) I may spend the money and exchange it for the multi season tag.

I'm not sure how the WAC could be any clearer. :dunno:

Correct Bobcat, if you only want to buy points that would be fine. Im not looking to put in for points though, so if I draw a tag chances are I will have no use for a multi season tag, but if not drawn I would have lots of use. $186 here I come
