Shot with Canon PowerShot A75 at 2007-08-09

harvested this big boy yesterday.  shot him about 200 yards down the steepest drawn i could find yesterday at about 7 pm up around the lake wenatchee area.  planned an afternoon hunt but turned into an overnighter because i had to call in for some extra help to move him about 200 yards up the bank and had to wait for morning.  luckily the weather cooperated and it cooled down quite a bit that night to low 40's up there and it kept him cool enough.  he's about 6 feet tall if he were standing straight up and his front pads went close to 6 inches.  i would put him around 300 pounds.  i put in the extra picture so you could see his awesome coat.  i've never seen one like this and can't wait for that rug.  i've seen mostly black with a little cinnamon but nothing like this.

great looking bear. It looks real steep in the pictures. He will make a nice rug. Did you see any other bear?

What an absolute beautiful bear, congrats!  Is his hair a little thin on his head or is that just the camera angle?  He's a really nice bear, with those ears though I would bet he'd be hard pressed to make 200-210, he probably felt heavier every step up that steep slope!  :)  Awesome color.

looks like you put a good shot on him for such a steep angle at 200 out that can be tough, congrats, great color

thanks for the comments,

Machias -the bear was 150 pounds hanging at the butcher, no head, with about 15 pounds of fat cut off it, it was incredible how much fat it had, never seen anything like it, and i've been around a few bear or too.  i wasn't trying to brag or make up the weight i just figured with the hanging weight and the weight of the head and skin (which was tough for me to carry and i figured over 60 pounds) and all the guts might have put it up around 300, but it did feel like a ton heading straight up.  maybe 250 would be a better guess.  and he had a typical summer hide tin in parts but i think it was just dirt/dust on his head that made it look thin, because he did a few rolls down the hill before he came to a rest.  his head wasn't thin.

craig- we've seen a few other bear around our area, i saw a small one that same day, the berries are ripe, so any year there is a good berry crop, there are going to be some bear around.

That is exactly what I was going to say. My first bear last year was a "boo boo bear" version of this bear, close color, mine a bit more blonde. half the size. My rug might be done, I better call on it.
Congrats!
