Draw Length opinions
« on: May 31, 2013, 09:51:57 PM »
So a couple of months ago I bought a new bow. When I purchased it, the wrong draw module was put in. It was a 27.5, I didn't realize it at first and shot it for a few weeks before I noticed. I was shooting it really good, I had tight groups, but I was only shooting to 20 yards. After I figured it out I took it back and asked about it, the shop put in the correct Mod 26.5, (by the charts anyway). Since then, my groups have not been as good, I have had it looked at by another shop, and they agree I should have a 26.5 draw length and I have the correct arrows and the bow is in tune per the dealer as well. Do you think it will just take time getting used to the shorter draw? Should I consider, putting in a 27 Mod, and shooting it for awhile?

If it was working well, why change it? When I used to shoot with training wheels (just hack'n on ya), I shot at 28" draw (set up that way) and all was well. My actual draw is 26.5" +/-.  Might just give it time and/or adjust your sights for your style. I'm sure there are better answers to come. Good luck and shoot straight!

So are you closer to 5' 6" or 5' 9" tall?

It does take a little effort to change your anchor point that you've just developed.  And often times when just starting out a guy will shoot better with the peep closer to the eye.  But the real benefit you will find in shooting the correct draw length comes when you are in the field shooting uphill and down hill.  Might be a case that the tuning has changed with the shorter mods too :dunno:
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Thanks for the replies, I'm 5'6, I spent the day just messing with my anchor point, I think I my have figured it out a bit, it is taking time getting used to the peep being away more.

if your draw is a lil longer you will get a solid anchor into your cheek bone. when your short on your draw length your anchor may float. i'd draw your bow back with your eyes closed and find a solid comfortable anchor and set the draw accordingly .
