Wolf Attack on dairy farm Addy/Cedonia rd

You will be hearing more about this in the coming days. Dairy farmer on the Addy / Cedonia rd. has had wolves attack cows and calves in pens above the farm. WDFW is said to have visited the site. A local that is a friend of the dairy owner told us about the alledged attacks this AM

A wolf can chase a 20MPH deer or go after a cow weather penned in a field or on the range there is a reason cattle are called slow elk they taste good! To us and wolves.  Wolves were killed 100 years ago and it's not because people are afraid of them like the lame editorial I read in the Methow paper this week want's ever one to believe! The huggers like to tell us how smart wolves are but then say it's the rancher's fault for there loses, But NO wolves are smart and WILL kill the easiest prey possible. So like I said 20MPH or 2MPH you figure which one they will go after every chance they get.

   When wolves chase the bison and other wild herds, they generally pick out the slowest---what the huggers would call the sick/old/weak.  Cows are much slower than elk or deer, so the wolves think they found a lot of 'sick and weak' animals.
I thought the WDFW prediction for 2013 was for only two livestock incidents?

Again, just like last time, this is no surprise. It's going to become more and more a regular, every day occurrence for people who live with the wolves.

I don't believe they lie. They may question someone during the investigation. Just because they don't believe 100% of everything Joe Blow tells them in regards to a possible wolf incident, doesn't mean they're being untruthful.

I agree.  Everyone knew this would happen and be as bad as elsewhere.  It's what wolves do...in their DNA.  Flags, rangeriders, fences won't change the nature of the wolf.

Mostly because of how downplayed livestock incidents would be from the WDFW.  They tried selling the wolf plan on really optimistic numbers for almost any interaction with domestic animals.  Maybe they thought if they showed the wolf more love it would be kinder and gentler in Washington than the other areas.

Which dairy farm was that?  The one that's just as you start up from the Cedonia side or one of them on over the summit?  My new house is just a spit from there and I'll be roaming around that area during the turkey hunt.  Guess I better keep an eye on the wifes small dogs.

It was the over the summit toward Addy.... Have not heard anything else yet.

Last wolf I saw in that area was by where the Addy Gifford Road crosses blue creek.   Standing in a field full of cows by the way.

Dang it.  I didn't get my post deleted fast enough.   I just typed what entered my mind first, then thought better about it and deleted the post.  I decided that it would be best not to go there, but since I didn't get it deleted before you quoted.................  I just didn't like how the last one went down where WDFW said the cow wasn't killed by wolves, but the rancher says otherwise.  I tend to believe the rancher.

These wolves need the fear put into them.     

They need to learn that we don't want them around.  Every time they encounter humans, they should get shot or shot at.

This from Idaho.

The USDA-APHIS Wildlife Services (WS) agents classified 73 cattle, 312 sheep, and 2 dogs as confirmed wolf kills in 2012. Nineteen cattle and 25 sheep were considered probable wolf kills.

I guess were lucky, but one thing I would like to know is of the animal killed how much of the meat was consumed? at least on the ones they found soon enough.

Just talked to the source of the original info. No dead cows, no confirmation of wolves...assuming wolves as there are numerous sightings in and around the area. Something getting in pens .Cows spooked enough to break through solid wood fencing..Night time incidents. Farmer checking with Gov't agencys for what his options are.  Not quite the story from yesterday but something is going on with his cows. Farmer does suspect wolves.

I'd put it on food plot mode - takes a pic every 30 seconds or whatever.

He'd end up with a million cow pics though unless he's got a way to set it up away from the cows.

Night time depredation hunt. Don't need to have a parade over it just have to do what needs to be done.. Diplomacy has been tried and won't get the rancher his relief... time to handle YOUR business Mr. Rancher man.

Kind of like having a bad guy breaking in to the house..The cops show up after everybody's gone including your property and says if they come back calls again!!.. Well in this case a wild animal is literally killing your livestock and i sure as heck would not wait for gamie guy to jump out of his jammies and come over...... My losses would be substantial...

The trap would be set and the pack thinned OR eliminated and a weird smelling black smoke would be filling the canyons by morning for the rest of the pack to be reminded by.. Answer to the 30 round magazine question!! NIIICE

I believe they have lied about the numbers of wolves in Washington. There is far more out there than they will admitt.  Oh, and aren't firearms suppressors legal in Washington now?

Plot Watcher Pro would work good to take pics of an area with cows.  Have some flood lights for night if possible.
