« on: September 22, 2008, 09:22:35 PM »
So i have a buddy coming down from Western washington and he wants to try and do some bear hunting. So my question is does anyone know if there are any bear in the goldendale area. We know that there are dear and elk that way so im guessing there has to be bear. But would like to make sure if not maybe pick a diffrent area like rim rock or some other area. thanks for the info

there are a few bear but i would not go out of your way to hunt them there. I have seen 3 total in my life in there and i have hunted and fished there a lot. Rimrock would probably be a better option for ya. just my opinion though. good luck. If you do decide to go the goldendale area let me know what you found.

I have seen a few in the upper monument area.

Head West out of town, then take a right on Knight road. You will come to a 4-way intersection, go strait. The road becomes Pothole Rd. at that point.
Take a left on Pine Forest Rd.
Then go right on Cedar Valley RD.
The road will make a hard left, short strait, then a hard right.
After that hard right, keep going strait. You will see a dirt road that keeps going strait, while Cedar Valley RD. turns left. Stay strait. That is Monument Rd.
Follow it for a few miles, and you will come to a "Y" in the road, go to the right. There used to be a road sign (Cannot remember what it says) on the road you want. If you stay on that road long enough, you will come to an old bunk house, corral, etc. There is a good spring right there. You can go up the hill on roads on each side of the corral area. It makes a loop with one road taking off of that loop and going all the way to the top of the ridge at the indian reservation boundry.

If you go, let me know how the area looks. I havent hunted that area since my honeymoon in 2004.  :chuckle:  (yes, went hunting on our honeymoon!)

So we ended up going out towards naches went up one of the forest roads and ended up at bear lake. We were trying to find a ski lodge but didnt make it. We walked around and didnt even see any bear droppings. Plenty of deer and elk. We didnt come out empty handed to say tho we heard elk bugling and ran into this HUGE 6x6 too bad it isnt elk season yet. It was a great adrenalin rush tho that elk was about 100 yards away and we even got to stalk it for about 300 yards before a little breeze came in and that was it it took off. But for sure we are heading to goldendale this weekend atleast hit up some deer with some luck. Maybe we will go to that spot that Rex mentioned.

sorry you did not find bear up at bear lake. Ya the monument area is good for a lot of things. Drive up there and push the deer over my way. I will be east of you. Be interested to hear a report about that trip. good luck.

try to get up on the west end o Glenwood. I would go out the day before and scout for sign and then find a good clearcut that is about 5-10 years old with some cover.

Good luck
