There are lots of small, inexpensive deep fryers that will work fine for occasional small batch frying. I had a Presto FryDaddy that cost about $30 and would fry individual batches of french frys or sweet potato frys and worked well.
But if you want to do larger batches or use more frequently I would recommend a fryer with more features (specific temperature control, oil storage container, oil filtration system). If you check out amazon.com there are several models that have 100+ reviews.
